Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is a superhero or supervillain that has something to do with strawberries. Many of you will wonder...why in the world did I choose this? WELL! Character creations aren't limited to serious uptight or strange characters with dark backgrounds. Sometimes you need a character that is just funny and makes people go "...whhhhuttt...." Therefore, I choose something random and goofy to force competitors to think OUTSIDE of the box. All mediums are welcome as long as they credit other people's work if used within the submission (for example photo-manipulation or using a reference pose from an existing comic book picture, etc).

Comedy is preferred. You can have a dark twist on a funny character! Darkwing Duck anyone? I dunno. You don't have to include a bio but it will give you kudos points if you explain how their strawberry based powers or strawberry themed weapons work :)!

You have until Monday, January 10th to complete this task.

Here are some inspirational pictures to help you along your way! Good luck and HAVE FUN WITH IT!

Dirty boy you! :P Honestly I thought of this because when I learned I won the contest I was sitting with my roommate and we were trying to think up a new contest. She was drinking strawberry wine and was like DO STRAWBERRY MAN and I was like o.o; ok!
#6 Posted by IcePrince_X (4856 posts) - - Show Bio

Don't worry... I am thinking a character coming from Zenescope's Grim Fairy Tale like of a Character.

no I can safely say that I've never been that incoherent. If I had a giant strawberry on me I'd be eating myself. Best fruit there is.
I will see if I can eat this inbetween meals, but week'ish' deadlines end up getting chewed by the beast first.

Extending the deadline to Monday the 10th of January! People have messaged me about time constraints. Sorry I haven't done this in a while I forgot how long deadlines needed to be :)!

No problem :) Sometimes I forget that people don't work as fast as me haha. Being a newspaper cartoonist, I have to bust out 4 cartoons a week haha.

yea with 3d I can barely get past the costume designing and character modeling without a day or two, never mind the posing and scene building. If everythings cooperating it's at least 4 or 5 days to make anything decent. Working around whatever other grind is going on of course. Definitely not the fastest way to make a picture.

   Meet Strawberry Red....
She's one of the sweetest red head you can meet.
Needless to say, she is one of the best pastry chef ... her specialty? Stawberry shortcake with the most succulent secret red sauce.

---------------------------
She is a half-crazed woman who kills off her ex-boyfriend when she finds a new and better boyfriend. She usually give her famed strawberry shortcake to her new man... making them her own.
Uncannily, she is attracted to the most brutal and men of psychopathic nature.
So is she a hero or villain?
Victim or the oppressor?

Taste her cake first before you decide.

This isn't very good, will have to do another version of this perhaps, but here is my entry.  No story or or name for her, just this design is all I have.
#18 Posted by IcePrince_X (4856 posts) - - Show Bio

Decept_O she looks cute!!!

#19 Posted by Decept-O (7275 posts) - - Show Bio
@IcePrince_X:
Thanks!

I feel like a jerk I was going to comment on yours but posted mine.  Duder I love the story you have for your character and the "succulent red sauce"!!  Bwaa Haa Haaa!!
Perhaps you've had a bit of experience with an "evil" redheaded lady?  Watch out, they are nothing but trouble!
#20 Posted by tonis (6202 posts) - - Show Bio
@IcePrince_X:
twisted and humerous all in one, love it. Has a very 50s/60s nostalgia feel to it.

hehe, I like the fiery ones, they're a lotta fun, nice job on your. She kind of looks like what Strawberry Shortcake would be if she became a super-hero.

#21 Posted by IcePrince_X (4856 posts) - - Show Bio

@Decept_O
Now that you've mentioned it... yah, my ex-gf really gave me a hard time! LOL

@tonis
I was really aiming for a zenescope type of a lady and pin up style... but during the course of the work, the pose and face kinda reminds me of those 1950s cartoon ladies, especially the ones made by Tex Avery.

#22 Posted by EGoD (1513 posts) - - Show Bio

OH this is the new one, lol I thought someone rehashed an old thread.  Interesting pick and so far the work that's submitted is PG looking, I was kinda expecting to see maybe a risque Poison Strawberry or something.
#23 Posted by Decept-O (7275 posts) - - Show Bio
@EGoD:
I wouldn't necessarily call IcePrince_X's piece PG.  Mine may be "PG", but I did that intentionally.   I may do another one but I wanted to try something a bit "cute" this time around.

Was this idea used previously?
#24 Edited by EGoD (1513 posts) - - Show Bio
@Decept-O:
Yeah his concept concept and the head without a body isn't really PG but the costume is.  This idea wasn't used before, I just read the contest list wrong and thought the number was off but I see it wasn't.  I'm not exactly focused right now multi multi multi multi tasking.

Oh I have to add this too, cause well I'm a huge Simpson's fan and every time I hear Strawberry, I think of this "my name is Strawberry, my purse is a lunchbox"

CAPTAIN STRAWBERRY and his sidekick SHORTCAKE.

@payno:
oh man that is great, friggin creative on multiple levels. This could make a great kids comic book. The strawberry mask is hilarious, I'm rolling on the floor for sure.
#27 Posted by IcePrince_X (4856 posts) - - Show Bio

A Strawberry Man? hmm.....
LOL made my day!!! Tonis is right very creative and has potential commercial viability here. :-)

#28 Posted by EGoD (1513 posts) - - Show Bio
@payno:
Now that is just awesome, they kinda have that Captain America and Bucky vibe going on but at least Shortcake doesn't look lame
#29 Posted by Decept-O (7275 posts) - - Show Bio

Please disregard my previous entry.  I had to re-do it; this one currently will be the entry from me until I color it.  Just wanted to do a better version, that first one was a bit of a rough draft.
#30 Posted by IcePrince_X (4856 posts) - - Show Bio

nice one... just twitch the boob a little its swinging just way up.

#31 Edited by Decept-O (7275 posts) - - Show Bio
@IcePrince_X:
Umm...I don't know if I can do that one on this one.  Guess I will have to re-do this, can't exactly erase an inked sketch.  Crap.

Yeah, the more I look at it the more I realize this is really awful and not an improvement at all.  I tried to draw her standing at an angle but went too heavy with the idea and the ink.   Not that my first one was any good either but I will scrap this one and try another one.   Thanks for pointing it out.

when used right they are deadly weapons, no doubt. :)
I wouldn't be bummed, it's not that major. You could actually compensate strategically with shading and coloring to balance. I'd grab an image editor and make a freestyle selection and then nudge a tad with the distort or perspective option usually under edit in most programs.
Both can make a rainy day bright sometimes.
#36 Posted by Decept-O (7275 posts) - - Show Bio
@tonis:   I appreciate that input but I am rather computer  illiterate and just plain stupid.  So I will do another one from scratch,  I wasn't 100% satisfied anyway so IcePrince_X's input was valid.

@Crazy Pan:
That's funny stuff right there, I don't care who you are!.....

LOL
kinda reminds me of this character made by college friend who has a morphing boobies for her powers... it can turn into a hand or a hammer among other things... kinda like the green lantern projection.
#40 Posted by Decept-O (7275 posts) - - Show Bio

OK, now  this is my official entry for this strawberry superhero  themed contest.

Please disregard my other submissions.

Thanks, IcePrince_X on for letting me know about the mistake(s) with my other one.

Decept_O she is cute!!! but you really like the bat holding your ladies' boobies huh?  ;-)

May I suggest the next topic in character creation? If so maybe the emotional spectrum? You know like Ion or parallax....

#44 Posted by Crazy Pan (708 posts) - - Show Bio
@Achilles.: To do the next character creation contest you must first WIN this one. That's how it works. The winner of the previous contest decides the next one. Good luck :)!!

I'd have to agree, the first has a nicer innocent feel with a pinch of mischief, the third is more heroic looking but she doesn't have that look in her eye like I'd trust her with handcuffs.

where there's boobs there's a bat all over that, think it's a rule Bruce made when he got the copyright. :)

It's gonna take a few days to put togethor what I'm envisioning. I'd say somewhere sandwiched between Moon Knight and Wonder Woman (sounds almost kinky eh) if Im lucky.
The new deadline you set puts it in a 'sweet spot', which is fitting given the theme. :)
#48 Edited by Decept-O (7275 posts) - - Show Bio
@Crazy Pan:   Thank You, but I do not.  The third one will be the one I am using.
@IcePrince_X:
There isn't a bat design here.  If it is it is a fruit bat.

@Decept-O:
 Is joke! Is funny ya? :)
#50 Edited by Decept-O (7275 posts) - - Show Bio
@Crazy Pan:
I forgot to add in  my response to IcePrince it is a
fruit bat.

OK, yes, there evidently is a bit of a bat outline there but that wasn't intentional it was just a costume top outline that ended up that way.  OK, guess we're all in agreement it is a bat.

Now, that aside, yes I can take criticisms.  I have worked on this three separate times.  I am not happy with my first one because the proportions are all over the place and the coloring and inking didn't come out right for me.  IcePrince was right about the second one; I couldn't change it so decided to do a somewhat different one.  This third one I was up all night doing, trying to get it right.

Yes, her top has a bit of a bat element to it and again, not intentional.  I can joke about it.  Just wished you wouldn't have taken a portion of my art like that and altered the image.  I can joke but I find it a little disrespectful.

I don't trace.  I don't copy.  I don't take existing images and trace over them and pencil in or ink them in or use photoshop,  or cheat in any other way. It is all mine.  Not very good but my work is my own.

It gets a bit frustrating.  Seems like whenever I post my art I get derided for something.  Why?
