One of my favorite days of the week is gathering up all the coolest comic art that won't be appearing in comic books I can find. The reason you won't see them in comics is because artists often do commissions and sketches and post them on their blogs, Tumblrs and Twitter accounts. They are simply too amazing to go unnoticed.
Let's start off this week with a couple pieces from the wonderful and friendly Chris Giarrusso. If you went to Emerald City Comicon last week, you might have heard the news about a new project, THE WALKING DEAD for Kids.
The idea is it's supposed to be a panel-by-panel recreation of the original issues using Kirkman's scripts. Alas, it was an April Fool's prank for the convention. Here's where I break the rules a little because apparently the image will be used as part of a series of special limited edition variants that Image will release in the upcoming year.== TEASER ==
Giarrusso also payed tribute to Rob Liefeld's YOUNGBLOOD #1.
Todd also posted this sketch of Captain Britain on his Tumblr.
If you're looking for commissions but can't make it to a convention, there are artists that take them via their websites. Check out these two that Daniel HDR posted on his Tumblr (and did you read this week's STORMWATCH with his art?.
Gene Gonzales surprised me this week. Usually the sketches and commissions around here are usually the same old common characters. He posted one of Mano from the Fatal Five on his blog. Pretty cool stuff.
That's it for this week. Be sure to look for another installment and send me a pm or email if I'm missing out on other artists' blogs or Tumblrs.
