It's the weekend so that means it's time to unwind and enjoy some really cool comic book art that won't appear in comics. The reason you won't see them in comics is because artists often do sketches for fun or commissions and post them on their blogs, Tumblrs and Twitter accounts. It gives them a chance to work on characters they might not normally get the chance to and gives us the opportunity to appreciate some really fine artwork. Many of these artists also do commissions through their sites so be sure to check them out for more information.
Let's start out with Philip Tan. Last week we saw a pretty cool take on Mysterio he did and this week he posted what he can do with Psylocke. I can't wait to see how his (and James Robinson's) He-Man comic will be.
== TEASER ==Mike Mayhew did a few 'character sketch cards' this week. They're available for sale so you should be following him on Twitter to find out when he puts them up. As you can imagine, they go quickly.
I still get sad when I think about how we haven't had any new Calvin and Hobbes comics in the longest time. I'm sure there's even some of you out there that weren't even alive when the strip was ongoing. Chris Giarrusso did a sketch last weekend at Project Comic Con and it turns out this was the first time he drew them. He also did another "Tribute Tuesday" this week! Check out his site for more fun including a ton of strips and even video.
I just stumbled across Steve Epting's blog. These sketches were posted last month from Boston Comic Con but since I didn't post them then, it's not too late to check them out.
Gabriel Hardman posted a couple sketches on his site this week and put them up for sale. Of course, these have already been sold by now.
Here are some more from last month I completely missed. Tom Fowler did these sketches at the Ottawa Con and posted them on his blog. Shame on me for missing them.
Time for some Robert Atkins art. Robert had some pre-order commissions for Heroes Con and posted them. Check these beauties out.
Peter Nguyen appears to be traveling all around the world or something. He posted this sketch of Zatanna and mentioned drawing it in Sydney. He also did another sketch of Harley.
Terry Dodson posted some more sketches from Kapow over at his Deviant Art page. Always nice to see his art.
Check out this Avengers and Ultron sketch Daniel HDR posted on his site. Holy cow! Wonder if we'd ever see Ultron in an Avengers movie?
Agnes Garbowska was featured in last week's Web Comic Spotlight. Check out these postcard commissions she recently did and posted on her Tumblr.
Gene Gonzales has been posting some HeroesCon advance sketches on his blog. Check these out.
Todd Nauck posted a few new pieces on his Tumblr this week but check out the first one. It actually made me snort.
Joel Gomez posted a Black Cat on his Tumblr (which makes our second one this week).
Michael Walsh has been doing a "Sketch Request Mondays" on his Tumblr. Last week he did Zatanna and Batman.
Skottie Young changed up his Daily Sketches on his site. He'll ask for word suggestions, pick one and draw what inspires him. Here's what he did with "lump."
Dustin Nguyen did a BEYOND image and posted it on his Tumblr. The universe feels like it's growing more and more.
We'll wrap this week's edition with some Marcio Takara art posted on his Tumblr.
That's it for this week. I'll be on vacation this week but next week's edition should go up as normally scheduled.
