This is the point in the week we gather up all the really cool comic art that won't show up in comic books. The reason they won't is because artists often do sketches for fun of commissions and post them on their blogs and Tumblrs. Sometimes they also do commissions through their sites so be sure to check them out for more information on getting your own.

This weekend is the Long Beach Comic and Horror Con. Joel Gomez did an exclusive print available at the convention (check it out HERE). Joel's been working on the UpperDeck/Marvel 2012 Premier Sketch Card Set. Here's the ones he posted on his Tumblr this week. Be sure to look for him if you're going to the convention.

Dustin Nguyen will also be at Long Beach this weekend. He didn't post many updates to his Tumblr this week (that's okay since DC released the awesome BATMAN: LI'L GOTHAM digitally this week). What he did post is just a tiny example of the humor bubbling under the surface.

If you're at the Long Beach con, you can also find Norm Rapmund there. Check out this Silver Samurai commission he posted on his Twitter page.

Todd Nauck is another artist that will be at Long Beach this weekend. He mentioned on his Tumblr that if you follow him on Twitter and RT any of the sketches he posts over the weekend, he'll select a random tweeter to get a head sketch of their choosing. Check out what he posted on his Tumblr this week. (The FF piece was for the Hero Initiative Fantastic Four 100 Project).

Chris Giarrusso posted a sketch for a pin up that would appear in the MAIL ORDER NINJA comic (currently being funded at Kickstarter). He also posted another cover sketch on his site as well.

Ryan Stegman is getting ready for his new gig on SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN. Here's a sketch he posted on his Tumblr along with a Thor face sketch.

Mahmud Asrar posted this nice Hellboy image on his site this week.

Skottie Young added some more Daily Sketches to his site this week. When he posts them, they're up for sale. You can imagine they sell quickly.

Peter Nguyen won't be making this year's Long Beach convention but he did post some new pieces on his Tumblr including a colored version of the Zatanna piece we saw last week.

Funny story about these Paolo Rivera pics from his blog. I was at the airport and looking at the images for this post. A little three-year-old boy behind me saw all three images on my screen and said, "Whooooa!" He asked what I was doing so I tried explaining that I run a comic book website. Then he asked me which one I was going to pick. Obviously I picked all three.

Check out these commissions Daniel HDR posted on his Tumblr.

Michael Walsh posted this really cool Daredevil pic on his Tumblr this week.

Adam Kubert posted a few sketches on his Tumblr this week.

Philip Tan is still posting sketches on his Facebook page (not that we're complaining one bit).

Denis Medri posted another image on his Deviant Art Page. Obviously inspired by a bit of news that broke this week.

Agnes Garbowska is getting ready to go to Japan later this month and posted about it on her Tumblr. She also posted some more commissions she recently did. Don't forget the project she's part of that only has a couple days left to reach the funding goal. More info HERE.

Brett Booth posts a sketch each week on his blog. Here's what he posted last week.

Robert Atkins updated his blog this week. Here's a few sketches he did recently.

Take a look at the penciled version of a commission Marcio Takara posted on his Tumblr.

That's it for this week. The plan is for another Mystery Art Challenge this weekend at the Long Beach Comic and Horror Con. So that means it should go live during the week and you'll see scans of the images in next week's edition.

Philip Tan's Doctor Mid-Nite is just... wow.

If he had used Pieter instead, it would have been way too much awesomeness for my PC to handle.

We need more picks of strange

So awesome! The three pieces by Rivera are awesome, and that Spider-Woman bust is so simple yet so gorgeous.

I have a bold new idea:

For every book Liefeld or JRJ get placed, replace them with Phillip Tan/Bret Booth instantly.

Mamhud Asrar's Hellboy is awesome, Peter Nguyen's Zatana is awesome, Daniel HDR's Batman/Wonder Woman splash is awesome. A whole lot of awesome this week!

Love Nauck's Fantastic Four #600! That Thor face is awesome. I'm a huge fan of Stegman's. Love his style.

i will go with the Green Goblin pic wowza;

Again, I can't see what people see in Giarrusso's or Garbowska's work. They copy established characters and re-create them in simplistic, insulting, elementary styles. Giarrusso mixes Calvin and Hobbs with cover rip-offs and it's passed off as a "tribute". Garbowska has paintings you can hire a party clown to paint at a 5 year old's birthday. Just like music, "art" and comics has gone the way of the short attention spanned.

Is that Johnny behind Thind and Reed? What's with the arm?

Nice twist homage.

NO NO NO!! Spider-man is nowhere near cool enough to warrant this!

Who's this?

There`s no way that anyone can actually draw the way Philip Tan does. No freakin way. This must be some kinda scam. No other explanation.

I like the way that light reflects from the plastic.

My faf this week is Scottie Youngs Scrooge Mcduck. Because it`s Scrroge Mcduck drawn by Scottie Young.

@Gotham's Dark Knight:

Imagination can make anything happen.

#24 Posted by G-Man (39805 posts) - - Show Bio

@Icon: @SandMan_: It was a long day, airport, flying to LA, making sure this post still happened, etc. I totally meant to type 'Captain America' since he appeared a couple times.

Rampund's Silver Samurai, Nauck's FF, Stegman's Spider-Man, Scotty Young's Skrooge, Rivera's Carnage & Green Goblin, all of HDR's stuff, Philip Tan's Rocket Raccoon, and Brett Booth's Captain America are all badass. Awesome batch this week!

#29 Posted by grenade728 (755 posts) - - Show Bio

Beautiful as always. My favorite is Brett Booth's Captain America!

That'd be Mary Marvel.

All GREAT stuff... But, now I want Dr. Midnite and Moon Knight to cross swords! That could be done pretty well in the right hands.

"Take A Walk On The Dark Side" rules!

nice to see Pamela Voorhees raised her little boy right.

#33 Posted by RoboShark (1853 posts) - - Show Bio

Very nice picks.

#34 Posted by Decept-O (7827 posts) - - Show Bio

Philip Tan's Doctor Midnight is my favorite piece here.

Love the Batman/Wonder Woman picture by Daniel HDR! If only, haha.

#40 Posted by Rosencrantz&Guildenstern (299 posts) - - Show Bio

I wish I could draw as orgasmically as Philip Tan. But then again, don't we all?

Rivera's Green Goblin is great, too. The coloring makes it so realistic.

Also, that Scottie Young sketch from The Maxx... mind's blown.

#41 Posted by Serberus08 (115 posts) - - Show Bio

@Miss_Garrick: I think that's Mary Marvel, a Captain Marvel subsidiary, nice pic

#42 Posted by alex6166 (64 posts) - - Show Bio

That FF one by Nauck is great. Better than some of the variant's I've seen.

What's strange is, I've read Marvel for the longest of times, I've never heard of Rocket Racoon until the last couple of year.

I'll be angry if they've taken away Havok's cool costume and put him in that tardy one for Marvel NOW.

#49 Posted by RedheadedAtrocitus (6958 posts) - - Show Bio

Denis Medry's Mickey-Vader FTW for me, mostly because of Lucasfilm being sold to Disney and all. Great work though!
