It's that time again. Each week we gather up the coolest comic book art we can find that will not be appearing in comics. The reason they won't is because artists often do sketches and commissions and post them on their blogs, Tumblrs and Twitter pages. Some artists even take commissions online so be sure to check out their sites to find out more.

Philip Tan is continuing his massive posting of character sketches on his Facebook page. Check out his Magneto, Black Canary and Rogue.

== TEASER ==

Ryan Stegman was at Fan Expo last weekend and posted some of his commissions on his Tumblr page.

Each week Brett Booth posts a sketch on his blog and here you see his take on Cyclops during the X-Factor days.

Mike McKone posted a few different sketches on his TwitPic page this week.

Todd Nauck posted this Invisible Woman on his Tumblr. He did it for Hero Initiative's 'Wake Up and Draw' event that celebrated Jack Kirby's 95th birthday. The art is to be auctioned and you can find out more at the Hero Initiative's website.

Paolo Rivera also participated in the 'Wake Up and Draw' event. He drew a sketch of Hulk for the event. Paolo also posted a Doom commission along with some words of wisdom from the Thing on his blog.

Michael Walsh posted this commission of Nosferatu, Sherlock Holmes and Spring-Heeled Jack on his Tumblr. He also announced the return of Sketch Request Mondays.

Rafael Albuquerque posteszd this amazing Starman commission for NYCC on his Instagram.

Marcus To posted this sketch of a character he used to work on in the pre-New 52 on his Tumblr.

Robert Atkins takes does commissions through his blog. He posted a sketch of Black Bolt as well as some commissions he's been working on.

Daniel HDR is also taking commissions for New York Comic-Con. Here's some he's been working on in advanced. That Breaking Bad/Joker picture is something. Go to his Tumblr for more information on commissions.

Chris Giarrusso posted a bit this week on his site. He did an AVENGERS VS. X-MEN sketch (which you can buy, if it hasn't already sold), his Jack Kirby 'Wake Up and Draw' entry along with a bunch of past Tribute Tuesdays he's done of Kirby's work.

Joel Gomez posted a couple sketches on his Tumblr this week. Check out New 52 Superboy and Doctor Doom.

Peter Nguyen was also at Fan Expo and posted some of his commissions on his Tumblr.

Denis Medri did a really cool 'patchwork' of movie and TV tributes on his Deviant Art page.

Marcio Takara posted a sketch of Stephanie Brown as Batgirl on his Tumblr.

Ramon Perez posted some commissions from Fan Expo on his Tumblr as well. Check out his She-Hulk, Buck Rogers and Captain Marvel.

And finally, Francesco Francavilla posted a picture of Obama.

That's it for this week. I'm sure we'll see some more sketches from Fan Expo in the coming week. I imagine the artists are still recuperating after a busy con.

That picture of Obama is the best I've ever seen. It really captures his essence.

Surprised but glad to see Walter White and Gunna this week. I'd give the flesh off my left arm for that Starman.

The comedian pic is so awesome! and always nice to see a batman beyond drawing.

#5 Posted by sturmritter (56 posts) - - Show Bio

The Obama pic is by far the best. I agree with Lycanthrope, it captures his essence perfectly.

Can anybody explain the Obama chair. I do not get it.

#15 Posted by LordRequiem (1309 posts) - - Show Bio

Apparently a lot of artists draw the same characters. A very distinct lack of imagination.

At the Republican National Convention Clint Eastwood came out with an empty chair and did a "skit" where he pretended Obama was in the chair and they were having a "conversation."

No, it's a lame politic comment that doesn't belong on a comic site. Leave the political commentary and satire to Stewart and Colbert. They do it much better.

#22 Posted by Luthorcrow (178 posts) - - Show Bio

I love Phillip Tan's Magneto but his Black Canary and a Rogue are criminally. Why does he draw his women with teenage boy hips? It's like girl from belly button up and little boy waist down. Tan should look at Marcio Takara Batgirl for how to do it right.

The Kirby tributes are cool. His covers still hold up today. Very iconic.

@Luthorcrow: "No, it's a lame politic comment that doesn't belong on a comic site. Leave the political commentary and satire to Stewart and Colbert. They do it much better."

It's not satire. And art (and artists) are ALWAYS commenting on society. The trouble is, this one pricks at your conscience, so you feel compelled to lash out at those who happen to agree with it. I suppose all these Obama cameos in comics don't belong on a comic site as well:

You just show your true colors. The truth hurts.

Not usually a huge fan of HDR or Francovilla, but they knocked it out the park this week. Invisible chair Obama Shepard Fairy style is hilarious. And now I really want to see Walter White vs. The Joker turned into an official comic mini-series.

Albuquerque's Jack Knight makes me really want him as an artist on a revamped Starman series, Phillip Tan's work is breathtaking as usual, and that Red Robin is really cute.

#25 Posted by RedOwl_1 (1664 posts) - - Show Bio

Gotta love Chris' work :D and robin Red Robin is damn cute :3

Is it......... Mr. Chair? LOL :D (Ok it's official I've watched to much Pewdie :()

Please keep politics out of my comics. I BEG you! One of the reason I buy comics is so I can have at least an hour a week when I don't have to think about nonsense like politics. That speech was a crock of s*** anyway.

#34 Posted by Mercy_ (92629 posts) - - Show Bio

The Black Canary and Black Widow pics are gorgeousss

Sorry, but it's too late for that, as the numerous Barack Obama cameos in comics makes fully plain:

No one is forcing you to comment, btw. You just feel compelled because the Artwork Francavilla drew pricked your conscience, right?

#37 Posted by feebadger (1436 posts) - - Show Bio

Love Denis Medris' tv and action star patchwork.

#38 Posted by ARMIV2 (8290 posts) - - Show Bio

All freaking awesome, but that one with Sherlock, Spring-Heeled Jack, and Nosferatu takes the cake for me for most epic idea.

#39 Posted by straightedgejoe (28 posts) - - Show Bio

i love all of these.

#40 Posted by G-Man (30657 posts) - - Show Bio

@Luthorcrow: Francavilla is a great artist. It may not be directly comic book related (even thought Obama's been in multiple comics, as pointed out) but then why not make the same argument for Denis Medri's awesome drawing on TV shows that have never been in comics?

Keep in mind, the majority of these are COMMISSIONS. That means these are characters that they're being ASKED to draw.

The artwork here is fabulous. I love so many if them and the ones featured here are some of the best I've seen in a while. I keep going back to the top of the page and scrolling through them all again.

#42 Posted by Teerack (5399 posts) - - Show Bio

I dont get the chair image.

#43 Posted by darth_jones (110 posts) - - Show Bio

Love Tan's Magneto! But his women are NOT doing it for me. Canary has 0 hips and looks possessed and it looks like her costume was sprayed on.

Booth is a disaster as always.

McKone is AWESOME! I've loved his stuff in these posts! Hel and Spider-Man look great!!

Always liked Nauck's style but i dont like this invisible girl.

LOVE Walsh's Nosferatu picture. Dark and moody and cool.

To's robin is funny! I always like his work

Giarrusso's stuff is always amusing :)

I just don't like Peter Nyugen. I think he's a decent artist but his figures (especially the women) all look identical and too thinned out. I like his Batman Beyond here though.

LOVE Takara! and Francavilla's chair is funny :)

#44 Posted by Darkus_99 (68 posts) - - Show Bio

They're all goOd... But I didn't get the Chair pic??

#45 Posted by kfhrfdu_89_76k (3712 posts) - - Show Bio

So much awesome stuff!

By the way, the comic that Michael Walsh should make next...

Am I right or what?

#46 Posted by AWeekInGeekdom (228 posts) - - Show Bio

Bret Booth and Ryan Stegman are quickly becoming my favorite artists. :) It's a shame Ryan had to leave Scarlet Spider.

#47 Posted by Barkley (271 posts) - - Show Bio

i like the Amazing Spider-man art seeing it drawn makes seem not that different from the comic book one....Obama photo is cool but i think his real chair is filled LOL
