Sorry for the delay this month, DragonCon had me super busy.

Some details have been adjusted in the past few months so please review to make sure you know the deal:

TIMELINE: It's open for work created from the 1st of the month untill the end of the month. There will be 14 days of polling after and winners of each category will be announced on the 15th.

RULES TO ENTER: It would be chaos without them, so here's the premise.

1) There's no set theme, an artist can post any work they've done within that month but they must choose ONE FOR ANY MEDIUM THEY CHOOSE TO ENTER by the deadline (defaults to their most recent unless specified).

2) For their submission choice they MUST include the following information when posting:

MEDIUM : Traditional / Digital / B&W / Color / Web Comic (required - if you don't specify which medium that it's for, it's not a submission)

REASONS FOR CHOOSING : (not required - but offers insight into the artists creative thought)

SUPPLIES / DESCRIPTION : (not required - but offers insight into the artists creative process)

POLLING: the first 14 days of the next month voters will be able to submit there choices for the following criteria before the winners are announced:

All votes will also apply as points to the 'Artist of the Year' ladder which you can track at THIS THREAD HERE.

MEDIUMS: (pick what you feel your entry fits under)

Best Traditional Drawing (paper/pencil/ink/paint/canvas)

Best Digital (tablet/3d/photo)

Best B&W

Best Color

Web Comic / Strip / Panels

For this category you may submit a sample (1 IMAGE) of any Web Comic/Strip/Panel layout that you've produced for 2011. In the case of web comics you should also provide a link to where to view the entire comic.

GENRES: (You don't submit to these below, they are chosen from all entries above)

Comedy
Horror
Originality
Special FX

PROGRESS:

Most Improved

Each vote will count as a point for the artist and the one with the highest point count will be considered the overall 'Artist of the Month'. Voters can vote once for all criteria or just the ones that they can come up with a choice. I know there's no glory of picking the next theme but it does offer an artist a chance to focus more on different areas of their work and get a decent idea of what parts of their work people do like.

Here's hoping all you great artists can pluck something out of your monthly pieces to submit :)

#8 Posted by tonis (6202 posts) - 1 year, 8 months ago - Show Bio

@Roxanne Starr: hahaha, well if the artist gives his approval I suppose I'd allow that :)

It almost looks like the parking lot dude XD

#19 Posted by Roxanne Starr (9093 posts) - 1 year, 8 months ago - Show Bio

@Silkcuts: @DoomDoomDoom:

Thanks, Guys! That was lots of fun.

It took Tony five minutes to color it and me about 10 minutes to letter it...since I had to do some major improvising. :-)

I think tonis needs to establish a new category : COLLABORATIVE MEDIUM. :D

Ichigo with vizard mark black and white.

Two entries- the first is for black and white, and traditional mediums. Medium used, 2h, hb, 2b and 3b pencils, black pen.

This one is the same, I used sketchbook pro to colour it, So Im not sure if it goes into digital or colour... But I'll submit this for colour. If tonis decides he can put this in digital.

A little note, the sketches are 30 percent reference and 70 percent me, I needed to know what the mask design was. :D

Love your nightwing... did you get the inspiration from the renegade costume? Wonder Woman looks damn cool, you could fit her into a cartoon like that!!

@Roxanne Starr: @tonis: *chuckles at the goofy baby doodle.......then scrolls down to see its head fly off and start speaking in tongues*

Thanks for the nightmares! :D

@DomDom: @deadpool1109: Your colored entries both look amazing.  Being mostly black and white with shocks of intense color really make them stand out.  Bravo!
#35 Posted by tonis (6202 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago - Show Bio

@deadpool1109: definitely can also go in digital for the coloring you did on it, very nice job :)

#36 Posted by deadpool1109 (409 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago - Show Bio

@DomDom: Yeah I know you do... :P The grayson gets too much love. ;)

@M.S. Feather: Thanks a lot. Glad you liked it.

@tonis: Thanks tonis. This was relatively easy to colour, the lines came beautifully when i uploaded it on my comp to colour. still took me an hour and 45 to colour it... a mouse is a bitch to colour with!!! that and I have no real experience with it.. :P

believe it or not, I do all my coloring with a trackball, which is even more convoluted than a mouse to draw with. The thing is though, when it comes to coloring, I almost never do anything even close to drawing.

If your using a program like photoshop, where you have layers, the key is making layers for the white areas that are going to be colored. I usually do that via the magic wand or using the pen tool and plotting the mask. It's far faster and much cleaner than actually trying to color between the lines manually. If you ever need more details or instructions on the process send me a PM and I'll be happy to walk through it ;)

Drawing with a mouse is a bitch, but coloring is cake no matter what you use as long as you don't try coloring like you draw.

#38 Posted by deadpool1109 (409 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago - Show Bio

@tonis: Ha ha ha...

Yeah I guess but Im pretty much self taught when it comes to photo shop. I've only really used it for basic photo editing over the years, its only recently I started trying to colour with it (note the TMNT contest) this ones done using sketchbook pro. also using layers... I dont draw with a mouse, I tried, but it ended up looking like a kid went nuts with a marker and finger paints, theres no proportion no nothing. I spent 2 hours colouring the entry for this and there are just 3 colours, all the shading is pencil and pen, so just using my comp for the red parts screwed me over.

#39 Posted by tonis (6202 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago - Show Bio

@deadpool1109: I've heard good things about sketchbook pro and seen some incredible work produced with it.

Layers are definitely essential because if you ever need to go back and edit something, like a color, you're not reworking a whole selection process to make an adjustment.

Making the masks can be a real bitch, especially on uninked worked. I gotta say after spoiling myself on well inked work I'm hesitant to color raw pencils because there's so much manual labor behind it. When the inks are solid the magic wand can grab most of your parts and it's a matter of a little 'gap' adjustments to get some areas.

If your one of those guys who does the whole process digital, from lines, to inks, to color. Well by the time you hit the color phase there shouldn't even be any work left other than to pick a color because you make all the masks as you draw and ink. :)

#40 Posted by deadpool1109 (409 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago - Show Bio

@tonis: I heard of it through some one on the vine... I think it was DavidR who mentioned it somewhere in one of the earlier contests... So I thought since photoshop was a pain for me to try to colour anything in I'd try this.

Thankfully it also has a layer system. So it makes things easier, I'm still learning to use it so I dont it know it all that well, just enough to colour a little bit here and there... :D

Unfortunately I don't have a tablet, so I cant do all my work digitally. :P

Thing is with photoshop the magic wand, I've noticed, can only do so much. I use the magnetic lasso a lot more when I have to select stuff. I cannot use the pen tool, I know its really essential to know how to use it, the only time I managed to use is somewhat decently was on the drawing for the TMNT contest.

I'll try to get that hang of masking. :D

@mfundo: nice choice, I'm becoming a big fan of the Missus too since I got hooked on Young Justice. :)

@karbacca: very good picks, that Beast was a huge fan favorite in the RR contest and that Captain Cold is just as cool with his 2099 upgrade. :)
