Some details have been adjusted in the past few months so please review to make sure you know the deal:

TIMELINE: It's open for work created from the 1st of the month untill the end of the month. There will be 14 days of polling after and winners of each category will be announced on the 15th.

RULES TO ENTER: It would be chaos without them, so here's the premise.

1) There's no set theme, an artist can post any work they've done within that month but they must choose ONE FOR ANY MEDIUM THEY CHOOSE TO ENTER by the deadline (defaults to their most recent unless specified).

2) For their submission choice they MUST include the following information when posting:

MEDIUM : Traditional / Digital / B&W / Color / Web Comic (required - if you don't specify which medium that it's for, it's not a submission)

REASONS FOR CHOOSING : (not required - but offers insight into the artists creative thought)

SUPPLIES / DESCRIPTION : (not required - but offers insight into the artists creative process)

POLLING: the first 14 days of the next month voters will be able to submit there choices for the following criteria before the winners are announced:

All votes will also apply as points to the 'Artist of the Year' ladder which you can track at THIS THREAD HERE.

MEDIUMS: (pick what you feel your entry fits under)

Best Traditional Drawing (paper/pencil/ink/paint/canvas)

Best Digital (tablet/3d/photo)

Best B&W

Best Color

Web Comic / Strip / Panels / COVERS

For this category you may submit a sample (1 IMAGE) of any Web Comic/Strip/Panel layout that you've produced for 2011. In the case of web comics you should also provide a link to where to view the entire comic.

GENRES: (You don't submit to these below, they are chosen from all entries above)

Comedy
Horror
Originality
Special FX

PROGRESS:

Most Improved

Each vote will count as a point for the artist and the one with the highest point count will be considered the overall 'Artist of the Month'. Voters can vote once for all criteria or just the ones that they can come up with a choice. I know there's no glory of picking the next theme but it does offer an artist a chance to focus more on different areas of their work and get a decent idea of what parts of their work people do like.

Here's hoping all you great artists can pluck something out of your monthly pieces to submit :)

I'd like to enter this as my Traditional entry. Mid-90's Bone Claw Wolverine from the Onslaught era. Did this as a commission for someone. A warning to all, the new batches of Marvel blank covers are very resistant to colors and inks. I unfortunately lost a lot of the detail I did in the hair because of this.

#3 Posted by tonis (6183 posts) - - Show Bio

@MetropolisKid41: man you make a vicious looking Wolvie, very very cool :)

#4 Posted by ARMIV2 (8879 posts) - - Show Bio

Unless I come with something I think is better, here's my B/W entry.

And maybe I'll be able to get something colored in as well...hopefully.

#21 Posted by SteveRodgers (712 posts) - - Show Bio

The television show Flash Gordon was one of Lucas' prime inspirations (the movie released well after Star Wars and was actually made because of Star Wars' success) but yeah, Lucas loved the Saturday morning serials from the 50s and used them as a basis for both Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

#23 Posted by SteveRodgers (712 posts) - - Show Bio

@rocketpig: he as writing a Flash Gordon script but then Dino De Laurentiisbought the film rights so Lucas wrote Star Wars and made it before Flash Gordon was released...3 years later

anymore discussion you can private message me, i dont like taking up so much space on a thread

@thecheckeredman: So cool to have The Checkered Man in the showcase, he's been one of my favorite things on the vine all year, and the new look is truly fantastic.

It's also inspiring to see digital that looks so traditional, absolutely great work Denver :)

#31 Posted by darth_brendroid (1692 posts) - - Show Bio

I've got a small piece I should be able to add to this. Whoah, I haven't contributed in a while.

#32 Posted by darth_brendroid (1692 posts) - - Show Bio

Asuka Soryu from the Evangelion franchise. Used a photo reference (her hair+plugsuit can be a bit tricky) for it. 12x15.5 cm, traditional media. Colour category I guess? I like the colour on this, even if the upload looks a little grainy in parts.

#33 Posted by tonis (6183 posts) - - Show Bio

@darth_brendroid: awesome addition man, she's very beautiful and great coloring work. you can use it for both color and traditional :)

#34 Posted by darth_brendroid (1692 posts) - - Show Bio

@tonis: Sure, so both?

Thanks, I'm not sure if I did the reference justice but I think I did the character some.
