So keeping up with the girl theme, I was thinking really hard about just segwaying over to Batwoman, I don't know if any of you guys are reading that series but it is AMAZING I've never read any batwoman before until the new 52. The artist and the story are pretty damn engaging, but Since Tony (g-man) has been posting up non stop phil noto work I finally picked up x23 issues 14 and 15. Since that subject hasn't been covered here I have some ideas for future contests if I end up winning again in the future. Lots of good books, was thinking swamp thing too but you viners seem to LOVE your female characters. So yeah X23, however you want to slice and dice her. Costume and whatever is completely up to you. I don't know much about the character from the two issues I've read.

Deadline is November 4th, you have 2 weeks.

Oh yeah! I got some ideas for this one!

@Om1kron

some x-23 details

She's under 18 and yet a trained killer. also once a teenage prostitute

She is technically a clone of Wolverine but only in genetic make up, not the gender.

I already have a halloween costume for her ;-)

@Om1kron: Great idea and a big congrats on the win for the Batgirl contest; your artwork for that contest was awesome to say the least. All the other Batgirl renditions were indeed top notch!

This should be something fun to do.

I appreciate the kind words, apparently a few batman groups on deviantart really enjoyed the picture too, it got like 30-40 favorites yesterday.

Interesting, I knew she was young but I didn't think she was that young, that explains why phil noto draws her with 0 curves and she looks like a 10 year old boy.

Went a bit stylized almost like a comic cover for this one. I plan to do the water color style colors soon with this. The claws look a bit funny because of the angle.

#8 Posted by truespark (42 posts) - - Show Bio

@karbacca: The claws look fine to me! I'm sure the watercolors will look good but I like this a lot as a black and white piece.

I do enjoy most all of my work to stay in black and white also (Mostly cause i'm not a colorist) but the watercolors I have for this will be subtle and just enhance it a small amount.

#10 Posted by karbacca (143 posts) - - Show Bio

Just finished up the colors for this piece. I went a bit more then I was planning but I think it came out cool.

Thanks everyone. Every time I look at the color version I tend to like the black and white better.

#18 Posted by karbacca (143 posts) - - Show Bio

Also I did a small graphical upgrade to the black and white version of this pic, I think it gives it an extra pop!...or snikt!

#19 Posted by sora_thekey (8175 posts) - - Show Bio

@karbacca: This is really cool!

@DomDom: Not much? This is awesome! I think it's one of your best work (Maybe because your style has always worked with young-looking characters)

@Om1kron: Congrats on winning #81. I didn't vote for you but I did LOVE your entry. Nice pic this time. I really wish I could enter but I still have no scanner of camera. Just for kicks I'll show you guys an X-23 drawing I made some time ago:

I promise if I enter this contest, I'm not coloring my entry. I want to do something super cool but there is NO WAY IN HELL I'm going to try to color it.

#22 Posted by mimschkin (626 posts) - - Show Bio

Would it be acceptable to enter a piece that I've already done of her outside of the contest? I'd really like to enter but I don't think I'll have time to do anything new...

I think its possible, but I'm not really sure though.

Actually that's against the rules. Sorry guys but it needs to be made for the contest.

I have made an exception twice, and that was only for two different people who were brand new members. Being it was my contest to host at the time, but if anyone objected to it it wasn't allowed. The whole point of these contests is for you to contribute something new, show us how you've grown. It doesn't need to be a masterpiece and never do something with the intention of winning, but with the intention of sharing. There has been plenty of times where I did something I thought was going to win a contest but we had new members come out of left field to take the competition. Gorilla Girl almost won the last one, but again that's not even the point.

Enter if you can or have the time, or just wait until the next contest, but always stay drawing or practicing.

@Om1kron
Very well said... =)
#28 Posted by mimschkin (626 posts) - - Show Bio

That's cool. I had an inkling that it would be bending the rules but thought I'd ask just to make sure. I'll see if I have time, I have some assessments coming up that I need to work hard for and those obviously take priority, so whether I enter or not, good luck to everyone who does :)

#29 Posted by truespark (42 posts) - - Show Bio

Got some linework done. I'll join the black and white club for now but maybe I'll color it? I probably should.

If I had claws I would do that to so many apples.

#30 Posted by Om1kron (1170 posts) - - Show Bio

told you guys I'm keeping it stupid simple this time around.

#31 Posted by truespark (42 posts) - - Show Bio

@Om1kron: Well you may not have a lot of snazzly details like with your batsuit but you didn't need them this go around. I am particularly jealous of the shading around the face/neck area. What kind of ink did you use, if I may ask?

#32 Posted by Om1kron (1170 posts) - - Show Bio

I used a 1.0 sized radiograph ink pen for any thin lines you see, and a normal pointed sharpie for mostly everything else, and a HUGE sharpie for the large area fills.

#33 Posted by truespark (42 posts) - - Show Bio

@Om1kron: Awesome, thanks! I don't have too many pens so it's good to know you can get cool results with sharpies, I'll have to try some out.

That is awsome!
#35 Posted by IcePrince_X (4865 posts) - - Show Bio

Nice expression! Just blends it well with the character.

#36 Posted by sora_thekey (8175 posts) - - Show Bio

@Om1kron: Great job! I really like the expression on her face.

might enter another entry?
#38 Posted by Om1kron (1170 posts) - - Show Bio

I know how you feel, I must've redrawn this character at least 8 times last night. I thought I would enjoy this contest but there is nothing fun about drawing an 18 year old girl with wolverine claws.

#39 Posted by gorilla_girl (134 posts) - - Show Bio

Okay, I don't know much about the character, cause I'm more of a DC fangirl, but I read almost the whole wiki page on her here (which is enormous), so I hope I got her right. Also I think she might not actually like Black Flag. But then again, there's this

#40 Posted by DavidR (1366 posts) - - Show Bio

@gorilla_girl:

Love the mood, great piece from you!

#41 Posted by Decept-O (7278 posts) - - Show Bio

These are already turning out great, very impressive works.

"I don't have Daddy issues."

I know, X23 is essentially a clone but I had to use this line. Barely got this one in time. Wonder if more artists will enter?

#48 Posted by Om1kron (1170 posts) - - Show Bio

you guys have until 9pm pst tomorrow to get your entries in, then I'm starting the voting thread.

#49 Edited by truespark (42 posts) - - Show Bio

Thanks for the extension Om1kron, I wouldn't have been able to submit a colored version without it. It's still sort of just a quickly colored piece but I think it looks better than the old one at any rate.

I'm still not perfect at scanning line art but it doesn't really scare me anymore... Also, plainclothes are so much harder to draw/shade/color than superhero costumes, haha.

@Decept-O
That's really cute =)
Love it!
