Artist Show-Off Showdown #82 : X23

So keeping up with the girl theme, I was thinking really hard about just segwaying over to Batwoman, I don't know if any of you guys are reading that series but it is AMAZING I've never read any batwoman before until the new 52. The artist and the story are pretty damn engaging, but Since Tony (g-man) has been posting up non stop phil noto work I finally picked up x23 issues 14 and 15. Since that subject hasn't been covered here I have some ideas for future contests if I end up winning again in the future. Lots of good books, was thinking swamp thing too but you viners seem to LOVE your female characters. So yeah X23, however you want to slice and dice her. Costume and whatever is completely up to you. I don't know much about the character from the two issues I've read.

She is technically a clone of Wolverine but only in genetic make up, not the gender.

I already have a halloween costume for her ;-)

@Om1kron: Great idea and a big congrats on the win for the Batgirl contest; your artwork for that contest was awesome to say the least. All the other Batgirl renditions were indeed top notch!

This should be something fun to do.

I appreciate the kind words, apparently a few batman groups on deviantart really enjoyed the picture too, it got like 30-40 favorites yesterday.

Interesting, I knew she was young but I didn't think she was that young, that explains why phil noto draws her with 0 curves and she looks like a 10 year old boy.

Went a bit stylized almost like a comic cover for this one. I plan to do the water color style colors soon with this. The claws look a bit funny because of the angle.

@karbacca: The claws look fine to me! I'm sure the watercolors will look good but I like this a lot as a black and white piece.

I do enjoy most all of my work to stay in black and white also (Mostly cause i'm not a colorist) but the watercolors I have for this will be subtle and just enhance it a small amount.

Just finished up the colors for this piece. I went a bit more then I was planning but I think it came out cool.

Thanks everyone. Every time I look at the color version I tend to like the black and white better.

Also I did a small graphical upgrade to the black and white version of this pic, I think it gives it an extra pop!...or snikt!

Would it be acceptable to enter a piece that I've already done of her outside of the contest? I'd really like to enter but I don't think I'll have time to do anything new...

That's cool. I had an inkling that it would be bending the rules but thought I'd ask just to make sure. I'll see if I have time, I have some assessments coming up that I need to work hard for and those obviously take priority, so whether I enter or not, good luck to everyone who does :)

Got some linework done. I'll join the black and white club for now but maybe I'll color it? I probably should.

If I had claws I would do that to so many apples.

@Om1kron: Well you may not have a lot of snazzly details like with your batsuit but you didn't need them this go around. I am particularly jealous of the shading around the face/neck area. What kind of ink did you use, if I may ask?

I used a 1.0 sized radiograph ink pen for any thin lines you see, and a normal pointed sharpie for mostly everything else, and a HUGE sharpie for the large area fills. 

@Om1kron: Awesome, thanks! I don't have too many pens so it's good to know you can get cool results with sharpies, I'll have to try some out.

Nice expression! Just blends it well with the character.

I know how you feel, I must've redrawn this character at least 8 times last night. I thought I would enjoy this contest but there is nothing fun about drawing an 18 year old girl with wolverine claws.

I know, X23 is essentially a clone but I had to use this line. Barely got this one in time. Wonder if more artists will enter?

Thanks for the extension Om1kron, I wouldn't have been able to submit a colored version without it. It's still sort of just a quickly colored piece but I think it looks better than the old one at any rate.

I'm still not perfect at scanning line art but it doesn't really scare me anymore... Also, plainclothes are so much harder to draw/shade/color than superhero costumes, haha.
