The Ballad of Crimson Jack Valentine
The story starts with a man by the name of Crimson Jack. A villain of infamous reknown, Jack was but a selfish lout until the day his wife delivered their infant daughter, Valentine. As she grew, Jack was adamant that she be brought up better than he. But alas, even the best intending parent can set the worst example. Jack was getting augmented with a chemical therapy that would allow him to control the metabolism of his adversaries, a metabolic pheremone producer. His daughter walked in on him and the doctor as he was about to inject Jack. The Doctor mistook her for an intruder. There was a struggle and Valentine ended up getting injected instead. The Doctor told Jack that she needed constant injections of a serum to keep the pheremones from killing her. He then struck a deal for Jack to work for him to cover the cost of the injections.
What Jack didn't know was that the serum actually allowed the Doctor to mentally control his daughter. As Jack was sent out on jobs, the Doctor would then send his daughter out as well. After crossing a high ranking mafia don, Jack's wife was murdered in front of Valentine's eyes. Jack arrived just as Valentine killed the two men. The Doctor's plan was unraveled and Jack ended his life. Jack spent the next couple of months rehabbing his daughter from the after effects of the serum. When she was better, Jack came to her with a proposition....to join him as his partner.
She accepted and her life took a dazzling new direction. She and her father became the pride of the underworld. The first time Valentine saw a "super hero" was the former sidekick to the Nocturnal Man; His name was Orion Twilight. Orion was the son of the Mafia don who killed Jack's wife (Jack eventually killed the don as well). The two fell in love and eventually, against her father's orders, started seeing each other. When Orion revealed his true identity to Valentine, she broke off their engagement. Heartbroken, Valentine found refuge in the arms of another hero: The Nocturnal Man.
The Nocturnal Man was a wealthy socialite who took in orphans and trained them to be his personal sidekick army. He took Valentine away from the pain and gave her everything she wanted, even a family. Upon hearing of his daughter's pregnancy and imminent marriage, Jack decided to leave his life of crime. The couple was married weeks later. At the wedding, both heroes and villains were in attendance. There was tension in the air that erupted into a full scale war. In the midst of it all....Jack was killed. The Nocturnal Man took Valentine back to his lair. There he kept her in a drug induced coma until the child was born. He decided that the child needed structure and discipline, and not the influence of ......a villain. After sending the child off, he set the lair ablaze.
She was rescued by Orion and he nursed back to health. She swore vengence on those that took her baby. Orion tried to stop her, but she gave him a seizure. She nearly killed him, but realized that she still loved him. She collected her father's things, and went on a bloody rampage against villain and hero alike. She took the moniker Crimson Jack Valentine in honor of her father.
