A REAL CONTEST 1

Recently, the Showdowns on this forum have been completely disappointing.  The reason for having artist competitions should be to encourage growth in talent.  Instead, they have become discriminating and terribly technical.  It is important to have fun, ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE IS NO PRIZE TO WIN.   

Sounds fun! So can we draw a green lantern with a different character, aka Joker as a green lantern or something? Or does it have to be something entirely new?

I was gonna enter this one and it was going to be my last for a couple months. But I changed my mind after captain awesome up there decided to enter his own contest.

well what do you got to lose? you don't really win anything anyway it's just a chance to get better at what you do and to show off your work

Yeah, well I'm sorry to sound like a b***h as well, but I completely agree with Crazy Pan. I was about to go to my little thinking place to draw a picture too but what's the point of a competition if I'm running against a pro. at drawing? You draw amazing an that's why that's your proffesion, we do it for fun and if you ask me, this just killed the fun out of some of us. I know there wasn't any rules and such but again, you're a profesional. I'm not whinning I'm just stating what I think, how'd you feel if Jim Lee would make a competiton and make himself a part of it with 99.9 chance of him winning? Just thought I'd give an example.

lol wow....who cares. if he's a pro it would be a great opportunity to go against someone of such caliber.

I do not see any hindrance of showing your stuff and art to everyone even when you feel you are against a professional.

People here, join for the fun of it or to share their talent. It should never be a drawback or get upset.
I for one, seldom uses the computer to color my work or lazy enough to paint it on canvas but when I see the works of Flash, Bobkane, Blankspot, EGoD among others, it makes me want to show my art as well even if I think mine is still on the raw side and lacks the refinement of what I usually give to my students. What is important is I was able to release my art and draw what I wanted to draw and show our peers.

I believe this is not really a drawing/art contest per se but more of a concept contest..it is that just art comes in as the presentation of your concept. It may be crude as mine or as excellent and professional as Flash but the winning factor here for me is the concept.

I still hope to see your work here.

Here's a good point for everybody to take in.......

When talking about art... there's no better or worse because no one draws the same. All the diffrent styles of art add up to these great Contests/ Showcases etc. Artish Show Off is to Show Off Art no see who is better....

Flash, Bobkane, Blankspot, EGoD, IcePrince_X and more I can't remeber now are all very good at drawing but none of them draw close to how I show artwork. All the styles are diffrent not better or worse. and Inferiorego has a good point....

Don't do it to win, post your art for Fun!!!!!

Umm.... no idea really. Just started sketching and she gradually appeared. I know next to nothing about Green Lantern/s sooo... I'm nervous about posting this.
(Grainy looking quality is because I used pencil crayons, among other things, and I don't have any type of photoshop to work with)
