Recap
Skye's mom, Jiaying, faked it to look like Gonzales shot her. She tells Gordon to take care of things. Skye tells Simmons to leave as she stays with her mom. May asks Coulson if there's any word from Bobbi (she was taken by Agent 33 and Ward last episode). They prepare to leave with Skye's dad, Cal. Another quinjet is taken by Gordon. It fires some missiles and leaves. Looks like S.H.I.E.L.D. Is attacking. An agent shoots an Inhuman and Skye vibrates his gun apart. May arrives and tells Sky to stand down. She wants to see Gonzales. They start fighting. It goes for a bit and then Skye blasts her with a quake and knocks her out.
Mack is finished debriefing when an alarm on the ship goes off. It's being reported that Gonzales is dead. Simmons isn't surprised that Gonzales would turn the negotions into an attack, but Coulson thinks he's smarter. May isn't happy at getting blasted and thinks Skye made her choice. Cal is simply singing like a lunatic.
Skye's mom is healing but still in pain. Lincoln isn't happy either. He blames Skye. Skye tries explaining that S.H.I.E.L.D. wouldn't do this but Jiaying says she can't do this now. She needs to heal. Skye talks to Raina. She talks of her visions and says her mom is misleading them. It's Skye's destiny to lead. She also says they'll never talk again.
Gordon reports that everyone is willing to fight since they believe S.H.I.E.L.D. attacked. In order to heal, Jiaying sucks the energy from a captured agent. Looks like her true colors have been revealed.
Coulson asks Cal why he's really there. Cal says he's a gift and a peace offering. Simmons thinks he's more like a Trojan horse. She's going to analyze the empty vials he had on him. Hunter and Fitz check out to security footage and figure out that Agent 33 went off with May.
Agent 33 wants Bobbi to tell them why they have her. Ward explains that Bobbi was the one that turned over Agent 33 while they were both undercover in HYDRA. Bobbi needs to admit it and apologize so she can continue to heal.
Jiaying appears fully healed despite being shot. Skye tells her that Raina said bad things are coming. Jiaying says they need to stop fighting and take the fight to S.H.I.E.L.D.
Coulson figures out that it was all set up by Jiaying. Fitz comes in and informs them about Bobbi and Agent 33. Coulson says it "reeks of Ward." May says if they find Ward, she'll kill him. Ward has a new way to torture Bobbi to get her to talk. The drugs are being injected under her fingernails as she's tied to a chair. He wants her to "admit" her sins. Bobbi says she had to give up a S.H.I.E.L.D safe house in order to secure her position. The lives of a few, if anyone was there, was the price to save many.
He others on the new council want to attack and aren't concerned with Skye. They think she's a threat too and knows too much about S.H.I.E.L.D. Mack actually sides with Coulson despite his earlier decision to leave because of Coulson constantly messing with alien stuff.
Cal is locked up in the cell. Coulson talks to him to try to get answers. Simmons is close to figuring out the chemical analysis. There's steroids and a bunch of other stuff. Like he was trying to give himself super strength. The torture/conditioning on Bobbi continues. She won't break and tries talking to Agent 33 about Ward just using her like HYDRA did.
Jiaying meets with Raina. She says she should have listened to her about the attack. Raina says she's accepting her fate. She dreamed of leading. She knows that Skye is he one to lead. She goes back to her grandmother's words about being an angel. She's not a monster. She says she's there to show what Jiaying really is. Jiaying says she won't and stabs her in the neck. Skye sees this. Jiaying tries saying Raina threatened her. Skye knows Raina knew she'd see this. Jiaying says she had to attack to protect them. S.H.I.E.L.D. Must be destroyed so they can survive. Skye says they need protection from her. She killed Raina and started the war. Skye gets hit from behind.
Cal asks Coulson for a glass of water and pours it on himself. Coulson tries explaining that Jiaying staged the attack and killed Gonzales. Coulson says she's just playing him. Cal says she wouldn't put Daisy at risk. He wants to protect her and explains about his concoction. He finally admits he's hit here to kill as many S.H.I.E.L.D. agents as he can.
May and Hunter find Bobbi's quinjet. Bobbi is still being tortured. Ward continues to talk to Bobbi while Agent 33 sleeps. He just wants Bobbi to admit she betrayed her. Bobbi points out that Ward is the one that betrayed so many. She manages to break free and attacks Ward. She's putting up a great fight and then Agent 33 arrives with a gun. She keeps fighting but is soon overwhelmed plus she'd been tortured for so long. Ward breaks her leg and asks if she has anything to say. Bobbi says yeah, she'd do it all again. Ward gives Agent 33 the gun to shoot her. She says it doesn't feel right since she doesn't care if she lives or dies.
Coulson keeps talking to Cal, trying to point out that Jiaying is he monster. Cal soon gets overwhelmed and passes out. They try reviving him since he's Skye's dad. They give him adrenaline. It works but there's a big affect. Cal has changed. He's bigger and stronger. He starts attacking. Coulson, Simmons, and Fitz try to hold him off. Coulson is still trying to convince Cal that Jiaying is just using him.
Mack hears something on the ship. I humans have arrived. Hunter noticed Bobbi's phone just came online. They know it could be a trap but they have no choice. Ward has Bobbi tied to the chair again. He rigged a gun, pointed at the door, set to shoot whoever walks in in the head. They leave her there.
In the cargo hold with the alien metal, Gordon teleports in and attacks the guards. They have the upper hand on the guards. Mack asks what did they do with Skye. Lincoln and a female Inhuman that can create duplicates of herself make their way and attack agents. They're disabling the shop.
Cal is chasing Fitz and Simmons. Coulson hits him with an SUV and pins him to the wall. The ship has been taken. Jiaying has a case full of Terrigen Crystals. Lincoln asks "Now what?" She replies, "Now we begin."
Thoughts
Things have escalated pretty quickly. The introduction of this Inhuman community is quickly going in a bad directions. With Jiaying showing her true colors, you can't help but feel for Skye. On one hand, it's understandable that Jiaying has to play things cautiously. Cal had a good point about what SHIELD does with the super-powered individuals. Gonzales clearly had his own ideas but he also didn't deserve his fate from the last episode.
For the first part of a two-part finale, there's plenty of action. The show has really been building up Skye's abilities as both a fighter and a super-powered person. Her training with May has really paid off as the two are forced to fight each other. While Skye may still be outmatched in a physical fight, having her quake abilities comes in handy.
Kyle MacLachlan as Skye's dad is fantastic as always. We finally see him closer to the Mr. Hyde character we've waited for. Bobbi's fight against Ward and Agent 33 was pretty epic as well. She had been tortured for hours but still managed to put up a great fight.
It feels a little sudden to have this war escalate so quickly. The Inhumans will now be revealed to SHIELD as they are forced to fight. The question is, will any of SHIELD survive to know about them? And why did they bring an unconscious Skye on board the ship?
