The Inferno has struck! New York's overrun with demons! But to Cyclops, that's all a lot less important than finding out the truth about his wife!
Synopsis
Beast and Iceman chase down a hotdog stand that is trying to eat a kid. They subdue it (and a rogue fire hydrant) and meet up with Trish Tilby and her cameraman. Trish is a bit cold towards Beast and the two mutants begin to leave when a subway car (with a face) bursts through the street and eats the news crew. Beast and Iceman follow.
Elsewhere, N'astirh muses at his plan for the overthrow of the world. He marvels at Madelyne Pryor's powers and he contemplates the uses of finding Cyclops's son. He then appears before Archangel and confesses that he gave Cameron Hodge immortality. Angel is enraged; it is the courage that came from his immortality that led Hodge to fighting Angel and, ultimately, killing Candy Southern. N'astirh leaves, but not before disclosing his location.
Heading into New York City to find Cyclops's son, Jean senses evil all around. The presence distracts her. She feels Nathan's fear and wonders aloud how the baby is able to be so clear in her head. All of a sudden, however, her link with Nathan stops. Jean can't explain it, but she doesn't have time to - a demon plane attacks them. They destroy the demon plane and continue on their course, noting that the Empire State Building is obscenely high.
Below New York City, the demon subway car races on. Beast and Iceman board and find the passengers unhurt, but very afraid. Trish welcomes them. Iceman begins an attempt to freeze the wheels to the tracks but the car jumps the tracks and exits the subway and on to a bridge. Beast punches a hole into the subway car and Iceman constructs a slide for passengers to escape on. Beast fends off the demon with some railing, but Trish notices that the railing won't hold much longer. Trish climbs a part of the bridge and grasps a metal chord. She swings it down so that it hits the demon subway car and the third rail at the same time. The demon is instantly fried. Beast leaps and saves Trish just before the sparks fly. Iceman catches the two and Trish, despite her reservations about Beast's form, gives him a kiss. Iceman breaks the two up, as he sees one of Cyclops's optic blasts further into town.
Upon entering New York City, Cyclops and Jean Grey witness a glowing pentagram in the sky. Hundreds of demons fall out of it and force the two out of their plane and onto the ground. They begin fighting the demons. Iceman and Beast show up to help. Angel also shows up and joins the fight. The pentagram disappears and Jean's connection to Nathan is restored. She mentions that the demons are going to either sacrifice him or eat him. The team strikes out in search of Nathan.
