Warstar

Origin

The smaller of the two aliens comprising Warstar, B'nee is the intelligence. He rides upon a perch on the back of C'cil and directs their actions. While not the powerful one, he is not helpless. He has the ability to generate powerful electrical surges through his touch and is a skilled hand-to-hand combatant, having been trained in a martial art from his own world.

C'cil is the large, intimidating one of the Warstar pair. While quiet and not particularly intelligent, he is an immense powerhouse of physical force.

Creation

Warstar was created by Chris Claremont, John Byrne, and Terry Austin. They first appeared in 1980's The X-Men #137.

Mayor Story Arcs

Imperial Guard

Warstar, a combination of two symbiotically linked mechanoid aliens, was an active member of the Imperial Guard as far back as the trial of the Phoenix, during which Warstar fought against the X-Men to decide Jean Grey's fate.

Later, Warstar was a conspirator involved in overthrowing Majestrix Lilandra. He was an agent of Lord Samedar, Deathbird and the Brood. Once again, Warstar battled the X-Men and also battled the Starjammers, specifically Ch'od. He was later still serving on the Imperial Guard, which then obeyed the commands of Deathbird.

Operation: Galactic Storm

Warstar appeared on Earth and attempted to abduct Rick Jones. Captain America interfered, allowing Rick to escape while he fought Warstar. Warstar was defeated when Captain America forced B'nee into one of C'cil's punches, rendering the smaller of the two unconscious. After that, C'cil became docile and saw to B'nee. Warstar would reappear several times throughout the conflict, battling the Avengers again and again.

Maximum Security

With Lilandra firmly back in power over the Shi'ar Imperium, Warstar paid for his earlier role in the conspiracy to overthrow her. He was sent to Earth as part of Maximum Security, where the Earth had become a prison for aliens.

War of Kings

At some point after this, Warstar was reinstated into the Imperial Guard and appeared to serve faithfully. This status quo continued when Vulcan became the new emperor of the Shi'ar. Warstar fought in the war against the Scy'ar Tal, ancient enemies of the Shi'ar and also helped capture the criminal Starjammers for Emperor Vulcan.

Warstar, both B'nee and C'cil, were casualties of war in the conflict between the Shi'ar and Kree empires. Warstar was involved in the battle over the Kree colony world of Kaiphas, where he was hunting Nova Centurions in the wreckage of an orbital platform. Just as Warstar located a group of Centurions and was moving in for the kill, Richard Rider struck with a powerful gravimetric blast that took off the heads of both B'nee and C'cil at once.

Realm of Kings

In the fallout of Emperor Vulcan's defeat, the Shi'ar Empire lies in near ruins. An apparent new Warstar (or he did not die) is seen with the rest of the Imperial Guard fighting back an Izumbardi rebellion. Back on Chandilar, Warstar and the rest of the Imperial Guard are celebrating their victory when Fang makes a comment about the new Majestor (Gladiator) that fellow guardsman Neutron does not take kindly to. Warstar jumps to Fangs defense which causes a fight to break out between the Guardsman which ends with Praetor Mentor interrupting and volunteering them all for a very special mission.

Once Warstar and the rest of the guard report for duty they are told they will be venturing into The Fault with some unexpected teammates - the Starjammers Ch'od and Raza. B'nee thinks it is a joke. In The Fault things go from bad to worse for the guards. Immediately they are attacked by energy-siphoning creatures which Warstar contains on Mentor's orders. They are then swallowed by a giant biological lifeform. Warstar is one of the Guards who stays on the ship when a scouting party is deployed into the lifeform. When the scouting party returns they are not alone as an endless army of ravenous small lifeforms have followed them. Warstar is on the front lines of defense and never loses his cool. He not only watches everyone's back but takes up a leadership role, giving commands to other Guardsmen. After fighting back the bug-like lifeforms they escape back into open space. Warstar is outside the ship with Neutron when they are hit by some sort of energy burst, which turns out to be Wendall Vaughn (Quasar) and he has brought trouble along with him - even bigger mutant lifeforms, and they are hungry.

Warstar again is on the front lines of the battle setting up defenses with other guardsmen. The mutants release what looks like mutated X-Men which engage The Imperial Guard in a fierce battle. Warstar saves Neutron's life when Starbolt is killed. The Guards are saved when Gladiator intervenes and destroys the giant mutant. After a battle with an army of mutants, The Imperial Guard return and we see Warstar at a memorial for all the fallen Guardsmen.

Powers & Abilities

Warstar is a mechanoid symbiote of two separate beings, B'nee and C'cil. B'nee, the smaller one, rides in a cavity on C'cil's back. B'nee and C'cil appear to communicate through a means that may be telepathic. B'nee and C'cil are empathically linked so that when B'nee feels pain, so does C'cil. Due to his low intellect, C'cil relies on B'nee to guide him in combat. B'nee can electrically shock an opponent with his touch, and C'cil possesses superhuman strength and durability.

Warstar, both B'nee and C'cil, is trained in armed and unarmed combat by the Shi'ar Imperial Guard, and uses a small Imperial Guard anti-gravity device which allows flight.

Other Versions

Age of Apocalypse

As in the regular Earth-616 universe, Warstar was a member of the Imperial Guard in this alternate reality. Along with Gladiator and the rest of the Guard, he confronted Gambit and the X-Force, mistaking them for enemies when they teleported to the M'Kraan Crystal. With the help of Rictor, Warstar and the Guard attempted to capture the mutants, only to be killed by the M'Kraan's expanding crystal wave while Gambit and his team escaped.

Other Media

X-Men: The Animated Series

Warstar along with the other Imperial Guard members, appeared in the show during the Phoenix Saga.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance

Warstar appears in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance on the Shi'ar warship and fights the heroes alongside Starbolt. A simulation disk has Wolverine trying to prevent Warstar from blowing up the S.H.I.E.L.D. Omega Base. He doesn't speak when he fights alongside Starbolt, but speaks during Wolverine's simulation disk.
