The Wacky Races series was based on the Hannah- Barbera cartoon, about 11 racing cars and their occupants. Each driver was competing to become known as the "World's Wackiest Racer"! The featured characters and their cars were numbered as follows:
Car 00 - Dick Dastardly and Muttley in the Mean Machine - these two were really the stars of the show / comic as the emphasis was often placed on the lengths these two would go to in order to sabotage the chances of other racers.
Car 01 The Slag brothers in the Bouldermobile. A couple of cavemen who would hit others & each other with their clubs.
Car 02 The Gruesome Twosome in the Creepy Coupe. A dodgy looking couple looking as if they were based on Frankenstein's monster
Car 03 Professor Pat Pending in the converter-car. An eccentric inventor who could adapt his vehicle to its circumstances
Car 04 Red Max in the Crimson Haybailer. A pilot and vehicle from WWII
Car 05 Penelope Pitstop in the Compact Pussycat. The eye candy of the races. Penny just had to flutter her eyelashes if she were ever in trouble and Peter Perfect (see car 09 below) would rush to the rescue, even if it meant him losing the race as a result.
Car 06 Sergeant Blast and Private Meekly in the Army Surplus Special. Two members of the U.S. military in a souped-up tank.
Car 07 The Ant Hill Mob in the bulletproof bomb. A 1930's group of mobsters - based on the likes of James Cagney - in a stylish vehicle from the same time period.
Car 08 Lazy Luke and Blubber Bear in the Arkansas Chugabug. Easy going pair in a ramshackle vehicle that just kept chugging along (and I mean Just!)
Car09 Peter Perfect in The Turbo Terrific. Suave type of character - perfect gent - always keen to impress Penelope Pitstop (car 05)
car10 Rufus Ruffcut and Sawtooth in the Buzzwagon. A lumberjack and his pet Beaver in a car made of logs.
The 7 issues of the volume feature the above characters in a variety of tracks and conditions as they race to the finish line.
