Nighthawk slips back into costume! The Hulk runs afoul of a whaling ship on the open seas.

Kyle Richmond has some of his industrial workers fix the Defenders' air-car. Val lifts it up so it can be repaired, and Hellcat flirts with a construction worker. She flies it around to show off, but the construction worker tries to get her attention and falls off a ledge. Kyle acrobatically saves him with an assist from Val.

Kyle finally gets good news about his legal troubles after years of problems. His lawyer, Rosenblum, tells him the injunction against him turning into Nighthak has been lifted after some help from Matt Murdock. Kyle immediately changes into costume to celebrate.

In the middle of the ocean, Bruce Banner travels on a yacht, hoping to return to the States while avoiding the notice of authorities. Suddenly a whale smacks his ship, and he falls off, only to get on board the whale. He realizes that this is the same whale that he rescued off a beach as the Hulk in issue 75! The whale takes him to a Russian whaling ship that is killing whales on an industrial scale, hoping that he can help. He turns to the Hulk and attacks the ship.

The Defenders fly to his original yacht, hoping to pick him up, but find that he's gone.

Back in New Jersey, Patsy's mom, whom she kept bringing up to Val in conversation recently, arrives at a hospital and is in bad shape.

The Defenders find the Hulk and the Russian ship. They try to convince him to stop, and learn from the whalers about what kind of unethical techniques they are using. The Hulk is unpersuaded and destroys the ship. The sailors, Val, and Hellcat escape on a lifeboat.

Nighthawk, meanwhile, flies around New York, enjoying his freedom. He comes across a hijacked airliner, and breaks in, knocking out the hijackers. However, they cause some damage, and he flies out, then helps the plane to steer and land by pressuring the tail. He is happy to have success in his first time out as a superhero in a long time.

Back on the ocean, a giant squid attacks the lifeboat. They fight it off, but Val is knocked overboard. Luckily, the Hulk and his whale friends save her.

The Russian crew end up in New York harbor, where surprisingly the old-school captain decides he will try to live in America, while a young, rebellious crewman decides to go back to Russia to try to change things in that country from the inside.

Kyle returns to Rosenblum's office to now get some bad news--while he can still be Nighthawk, the government has decided to formally indict him on all his other charges.
