With the mutated plant creatures inching closer to infecting the world, will the Defenders be able to uproot this ever-growing problem?

Chris Larmouth, a pilot for the Defenders who has always wanted to be a super-hero, is attacked by the irradiated spores that originally came from Ephraim Soles. Beast and Iceman see it on the security cameras, and rush to his aid, putting him on ice so he doesn't die.

Nearby, some farmers see other strange human/plant animal hybrids riding the range, and hide in fear.

The plants around the Defenders' base grow at an astonishing rate, and take on grotesque humanoid features. Beast and Bobby flee inside. Beast tries to find a way to stop them in the lab. The other Defenders, who were out of town on a case, rush back.

The base is meanwhile attacked by evil plant-rabbits. Bobby and Gargoyle bond in their mutual anxiety.

The other Defenders try to join them, but can't get in due to the spores' mutagenic gas and attacking plants. The whole valley is soon taken up by the creature.

With Moondragon's mental help, Beast finally figures out the plants' structure. He tells Moondragon, who enters the creature and tries to stop it with her powers, but they're not enough. She asks Gargoyle to join her. They bond their minds through a kiss, and mix their powers to destroy the plant monster.

Gargoyle is impressed with her inner beauty.
