He is most well known as the leader of the psychedelic/progressive rock group , Pink Floyd . He lead the group with musical and stylistic direction until he had to leave the group through heavy drug use leading to mental illness. He was an active rock musician for about seven years, recording two albums with Pink Floyd and two solo albums before going into his self enclosed seclusion lasting over 30 years. Syd Barrett died in 2006. A number of biographies have been written about him. Pink Floyd wrote a song about him when he left entitled "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". Powers and Abilities Syd Barret has no super human abilities. Syd Barrett was a very good musician and songwriter until his problem with heavy drugs.
