From out of the deep woods and the mind of acclaimed indie cartoonist Jeff Lemire (THE NOBODY, The Essex County Trilogy) comes a new Vertigo monthly ongoing series like no other! After being raised in total isolation, Gus – a boy born with deer-like antlers – is left to survive in an American landscape devastated a decade earlier by an inexplicable pandemic. Even more remarkable is that Gus is part of a rare new breed of human/animal hybrid children who have emerged in its wake, all apparently immune to the infection. Enter Jepperd, a violent, hulking drifter who soon takes in Gus and promises to lead him to "The Preserve," a fabled safe-haven for hybrid children. Along the way they'll have to contend with science militias, deadly scavengers, rival bounty hunters, and hybrid worshipping cultists as they fight to make it to safety and solve the mysteries of this deadly new frontier. This bizarre and haunting new series is boldly written and illustrated by Eisner-nominated creator Jeff Lemire and elegantly colored by fellow Eisner nominee Jose Villarubia. A little boy with antlers, a big man with guns, a world without hope – SWEET TOOTH #1 ships in September for only $1.00! Plus, don't miss a free preview of this title in August's JACK OF FABLES #37!

An absolute pleasure to read and only costs $1 0

This is a real heart warming tale of a boy who is born different, and is kept away from the rest of the world by his father for fear that the boy may be hunted by others and taken away (It seems our lead character is not the only animal/human hybrid and it appears they are very valuable to hunters). In this issue we learn that the boy has already lost his mother to illness, and his father soon goes the same way. The boy’s curiosity for the out side world takes him away from the safety of his hom...

I'm sweet on Sweet Tooth 0

G Man and a few others have reviewed this, so I'll keep this short.   Sweet Tooth #1 is awesome in my opinion! It has an almost, The Village, feel to it. Gus the deer like boy lives in a forest with his dying dad. He is warned not to leave, ever. Gus hears things in the woods a few times as he gathers wood. Twigs snapping etc. He then finds a candy bar in the snow, as you see in the cover image. All throughout the book Gus has a dream of a man looking at him, his face, the big man. At the end af...

    An Intriguing Start 0

The first issue of Sweet Tooth introduces us to Gus, a boy with deer-like features living in an apparently post-apocalyptic world.  Gus' father has sheltered Gus from the outside world to such a degree that Gus has never seen a human other than his father.  We learn through Gus' father that some great catastrophe occurred that changed the world, and since that time there have been very few children born, and they all have strange animal characteristics like Gus.  Gus' father eventually succumbs ...
