In this issue we see as Kal - El crawls out of his birthing Matrix on his own. Instead of being picked up by the Kents however, he is run over by a mna who is frightened at first, but sees that the child is absolutely fine. Calling him a miracle baby , the man drops him off at a local orphanage.
Not too long from that a young couple named the Sudermans adopt young Kal, and rename him Dale Suderman. Yet fate has other plans than to let this trio become a nuclear family, and soon little Dales father passes away.
Not too many years after that, while Dale is still just a toddler, he and his mommy are searching for her keys. seeing them behind a large dresser, little Dale picks it up, and then flies the keys over to his mother.
This display of his Kryptonian abilities scares his mother, and as she reels back in horror, she falls down the steps to her death. This causes Dale to suppress memories of his powers and for the next 10 years, he goes through life a bitter and withdrawn kid.
When he is a teen, and in therapy, Dale Suderman is passing by a playground where the kids are playing basketball. He joins in and finds that he has skill in the game. Loving to play, he uses his skill to take him through college, than the pros, and then to superstardom. Not just in basketball, but in all major sports.
Through his fame he becomes a buisnessman, yet when he moves to Metropolis and beats out the local buisnessman Lex Luthor for a permit to build a new sports arena, he makes himself an enemy.
