    This was not a terrible origin comic but it is also not needed at all, and actually does more to detract from a mysterious and badass character than help. In the Star Trek reboot directed by JJ Abrams, Nero’s given more than enough back-story, though not too much. This is why I found this comic not only redundant, yet pointless, outside of promoting the film, which clearly does not need to be done when “Star Trek” is in the title and Nero’s film back story tells you everything you need to know a...

    Star Trek - CountdownIssue number one I’m quite looking forward to JJ Abrams’ new prequel/reboot of Star Trek, despite not being impressed by the trailer a great deal, it’s hard not to get a little excited at seeing all those characters again. I grew up watching the original Trek, which used to be on prime-time BBC1 even in the early-eighties, and saw some of the spin-off movies at the cinema too.     This is an overall review of the 4 comic series.Pros: I did like the concept behind the series, explaining the origin of Nero and what led up to the events of the movie. The focus was more on intrigue, plot and story-telling than the pew-pew of laser fire and who was the baddest in the universe. Not saying battle wasn't present, just wasn't the focus. Overall it was enjoyable enough to pick up the hardcover of the series and will revisit on occasion.Cons: Some of the artwork could've been better...
