    Father of Spike, Buster and Butch Witwicky. Sparkplug is a skilled Mechanic and Owner of S. Witwicky Auto Repairs in Oregon. In Marvel Comics his first name was never confirmed, William, Irving, Stan and the name Daniel were mentioned (his grandson from the G1 cartoon & movie was also named Daniel).

    Daniel "Sparkplug" Whitwicky was by Marvel Comics for The Transformers and first appeared in issue #1 by writer Bill Mantlo and editors Bob Budiansky and Jim Shooter.

    Daniel "Sparkplug" Witwicky frequently used to take his son, Spike out camping in the woods when he was young, but these trips came to an end when he became a colonel in the United States military. Colonel Daniel Witwicky is a member of the U.S. Army ordered to hunt down the Transformers.

    Generation 1

    Sparkplug and his sons Spike and Buster, befriended the Autobots shortly after the Transformers awoke on Earth. After the defeat of the Decepticons, Sparkplug was one of the humans named the Magnificent Seven, chosen to accompany the Autobots back to Cybertron. Unfortunately, he and the rest of the Magnificent Seven were killed in when the Ark II exploded.

    His death caused Spike and Buster to resent the the Autobots.

    The Transformers (1984)

    Sparkplug Witwicky worked as a ruby crystal miner in Burma. Sparkplug and his son Spike were workers on an offshore oil rig. One day the giant robots (Decepticons) descended from the sky and landed on the oil rig, and attacked their co-workers. Eventually the Autobots, saved the oil rig workers from slavery or death. Grateful, Sparkplug and Spike happily offered their expertise and knowledge about planet Earth in exchange for joining the team.
