Scout and his brother, Shadowshift, were young mutants abducted by the military. Their father, Agent Kyle Dansig, got assistance from the FBI to search for them. This included fellow agent, Fred Duncan. Wolverine and Sabretooth, along with others, freed the young mutants before being set upon by Sentinels. In the ensuing fight, Logan's cabin caught fire and an Army Private by the name of Xavier cast a mental illusion of everyone dying in the fire. Private Xavier told Agent Dansig to take his sons, run away, hide out and then live their lives. He assured Kyle the government and military officials present will believe the Dansigs died in the fire.
Part of Scout's body is comprised of vegetative material. He has pointed ears, leaves in place of his hair and green plant matter along his shoulders, hips and torso.
