    *The Shield was the very first patriotic super hero appearing on newsstands in late 1939, while second stringer the Comet would become the first super hero to die in his own strip. But MLJ's quirky heroes would soon be overshadowed and replaced by Archie Andrews and his pals.

                         In It's earliest Incarnation Archie comics was also known as MLJ and it featured many of the earliest Super-Hero characters.
