    Kunkel is the winner of two Eisner awards for his work on the series, "Herobear and the Kid." He is, in his own words, a "designer, animator, story artist, children's book creator, writer, director. . .and occasional water balloon tosser and frequent food taster." Kunkel is also the man behind his own comicbook company, Astonish Comics. Most of his work is targeted to children of all ages, (including the frequent inner child in all of us.) Incredibly talented as a writer as well as a comicbook artist, Kunkel has, through his work managed to target a children's audience while creating comicbooks that even adults can enjoy. His work includes, "Herobear and the Kid;" "Grommitts;" "The Land of Sokmunster;" and "Flipped." He is presently working on a series sponsored by DC comics called "Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam!"
    Mike was a animation teacher at Laguna College of Art and Design, LCAD, until, about, 2001.  Collaborated with Judd Winick on a Cartoon Network cartoon called "Juniper Lee."  Mike was the shows Lead Character Designer.
