    Origin

Not much is known about Mentor and his history. He processes vast amounts of information at superhuman speeds. He can calculate the weakest spots of any given opponent and focus his attacks on them. He can fly through an anti-gravity device built within his costume. Though not hinted at previous stories, "Uncanny X-Men" #479 (December, 2006) depicts him as several centuries old. A flashback to a centuries-old battle between the founding members of the Imperial Guard and a Phoenix host called Rook'shir was depicted. Gladiator, Magic, Mentor and Quasar are depicted among the founders.

    Creation

Mentor was created by Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum in 1977 and first appeared in X-Men # 107.

Much like many of his Imperial Guard peers, Mentor is loosely based on the DC Comics superhero from the 30th century Brainiac 5 as were many of the other Imperial Guards fashioned after members of the Legion of Super-heroes.

    Mayor Story Arcs

    Imperial Guard

Mentor is a veteran of the Imperial Guard whom briefly fought the X-men wen the Imperial Guard was ordered to take them out by the mad emperor D'ken. However, when D'ken was dethroned and Empress Lilandra took his place, Smasher fought alongside the heroes on more then one occasion. He also fought in the so called Operation Galactic Storm, witch was a war between the Kree and the Shi'ar empires.

    War of Kings

When Gladiator became the Majestor of the Shi'ar Empire after the War of Kings, Mentor became Praetor in his place. One of this first missions is to investigate the threat of the Fault, a massive rip in space-time, where he is to gain the cooperation of former enemies- the Starjammers. In the Fault they discovered the cancerous life of another universe bent on destroying them. In an attempt to gain the upper hand, Gladiator allowed Talonof the Fraternity of Raptors to use his crystals to bring new Raptors to the battle. Mentor volunteered and became the Raptor known as Strel.

    Powers & Abilities

Mentos is now a Raptor and has all of the abilities and powers like the rest of the raptors.

    Alternate Realities

    Age of Apocalypse

As in the regular Marvel 616 universe, Mentor was a member of the Imperial Guard in this alternate reality. Along with Gladiator and the rest of the Guard, he confronted Gambit and the X-Force, mistaking them for enemies when they teleported to the M'Kraan Crystal. With the help of Rictor, Mentor and the Guard attempted to capture the mutants, only to be killed by the M'Kraan's expanding crystal wave while Gambit and his team escaped.

It is not known what alien race Mentor belongs to. He has heightened intelligence, allowing him to calculate massive amounts of data, predict future outcomes, and find weak spots in opponents. He also can fly with the use of a "flight belt".
