Cat and Storm argue over how they will teach Illyana how to handle the sorcerer Belasco's devious machinations, and Cat steals away with Illyana in the middle of the night. For two years, Cat trains Illyana how to defend herself, and teaches her to survive in an environment where all hope seems lost. The two raid Belasco's fortress, and Cat kills an evil, alternate reality version of Nightcrawler. Cat attempts to use her phasing ability to teleport herself and Illyana to Earth, but Belasco intercepts them, and transforms Cat into a demonic felinoid. He then provides Illyana a knife, and she willingly cuts herself in order to form the second Bloodstone.
