James "Jim" Bowie (April 10, 1796 – March 6, 1836), was a 19th-century American pioneer and soldier who a played a prominent role in the Texas Revolution, culminating in his death at the Battle of the Alamo. He is also noted for having invented a famous type of knife which bears his name.

A legendary figure in Texas history and a folk hero of American culture, he however has not played that as prominent a part in comics some others of that breed, though, it is of note that a series from Charlton in the 1950s staring a version of him ended with his death at the Alamo, and heroic characters being let to die on screen (so to speak) was not something you saw in comic in that era.

Scott Forbes played the role of Jim Bowie on television from 1956-1958 in the series named after the legendary pioneer. Richard Widmark played Jim Bowie in the 1960 classic film, The Alamo, while Jason Patric played him in the 2004 Alamo remake.
