Synthetic being created by the Skrull Empire, the Inorganic Technotroid (ITT) was created to protect the Skrull Empress. They would be activated in the Empress' chambers and imprint on her, making her the only one capable of controlling them. The mechanical eggs from which they are 'hatched' are safeguarded by several failsafe devices that turn them into devastating bombs if not opened correctly.
One ITT was stolen by renegade Skrulls and landed on Earth. When it awoke, it was imprinted on one of the Monsters of Monster Island and treated by them as their own.
