Joe: A Real American Hero cartoon where they where non-speaking background characters. The G.I. Joe fans dubbed them 'Greenshirts' in homage to Star Trek's 'Redshirts' who were often minor, non-speaking and expendable roles in the series. The Greenshirts were first named in canon in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #2. Several Greenshirts have been promoted to G.I. Joe status. The most notable of these was Lt. Dwight Stall who was given the Joe code name of Barrel Roll.
