Gleep is a member of the Herculoids, a pulp sci fi team of wondrous beasts and their human companions. The Herculoids was a popular animated Saturday morning television series in the 1960s; though its plots were formulaic and uncomplicated, the series more than made up for it with charm, verve, and creativity!

The Herculoids is a team of three humans and of five pulp space opera animals each with intelligence at about the level of a 10 year old, all of them residing on the faraway planet Amzot (renamed Quasar for unknown reasons when the series was brought back a decade and a half later).

Approximately three times the height of an adult human, Gleep (and its kinfolk Gloop) resembles nothing so much as a plop of dough come to life. Gleep is able to stretch itself incredible lengths, reconfigure its body into such shapes as bridges or slides, trampolines, parachutes, lassos, bouncing balls, springing coils, and elastic bands for slingshot effects. Gleep is also able to divide itself into a herd of doll-sized Gleeps. Gleep's form is invulnerable to almost any harm. Gloop and Gleep are particularly remembered for an odd vibrato buzzing noise they would make to communicate.

Gleep's leader is the human King Zandor; however, both Gloop and Gleep have a great fondness and devotion for the human prince Dorno, acting sometimes as his pet and sometimes as though he were their pet.
