    LAD A DOG

Lad, a prize collie owned by Stephen Tremayne and his wife, Elizabeth. At Strephen's home, Sunnybank, Lad enjoys the complete freedom of country living. He's retired from dog shows. Hamilcar Q. Glure, a neighbor brings his daughter, Angela, a beautiful crippled child, to visit Lad. Angela loves Lad. Glure dislikes dogs, but likes Lad's trophies. He likes to possess things.

Glure sponsors a dog show, with rules favoring his prize dog, an imported collie named Lochinvar II. Lad wins the gold cup anyway. One day Lad saves Angela from a copperhead snake... Lad is bitten. Angela's nurse, mistaking Lad's act, beats the dog. In protest, Angela rises and walks. Lad goes off into the woods and cures himself by lying in mud that draws the poison.

Jackson White, sets fire to the barn housing Lady, Lad's mate, and her pups. Elizabeth, entering the barn, is struck by a burning timber. Lad saves her by finding Stephen who saves her just in time.
