The First Hokage's Necklace (初代火影の首飾り, Shodai Hokage no Kubikazari) is an object from the Naruto series that was created by Masashi Kishimoto, It first began serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump in November 1999. It first appeared in Naruto Vol. 17 Ch. 149 "The Legendary…!!".
The pendendt of the necklace is made of a special "Crystal Gem" (結晶石, Kesshōseki) that once belongs to Hashirama Senju, the First Hokage of Konohagakure. The value of the crystal is said to be valuable enough to buy three mountains filled with gold mines. He passed it down to his first grandchild, Tsunade.
Tsunade had tried passing it on to her younger brother, Nawaki, on his birthday. He died the same day in combat while on a mission. She later gave it to her lover Dan Katō, but she also died soon after. What they both shared was their desire to become Hokage and protect the village. Tsunade took it with her as she abandoned the village, and she refused to ever pass it down again.

Search For Tsunade Arc
After years away from the village with Shizune, Tsunade was first approached by Orochimaru, who needed her to repair his arms and promised to revive her loved ones with a forbidden jutsu. Later, Jiraiya arrived with his new student, Naruto Uzumaki. He was there to tell her that she was being requested to take on the role of the next Hokage after Orochimaru murdered the Third. When Tsunade dismissed the concept of Hokag as foolish, Naruto challenge her in a fight outside. When he tried to use the Fourth Hokage's Rasengan, Tsunade wagered with Naruto that f she could complete the justu in a week that she would give him her necklace.
Naruto would eventually complete the Rasengan in the battle with Orochimaru and his disciple, Kabuto Yakushi. She passed on the necklace to Naruto and recognized his dream to become Hokage. They all returned to the village and she took on the title of Fifth Hokage.
