The first lady of the funny papers.

    Short summary describing this person.

No recent wiki edits to this page.

Fanny Y. Cory was the first woman to be both an illustrator of children's books (she supplied the art for the American edition of Alice in Wonderland and some of L. Frank Baum non Oz books) she was also one of the first and few creators of Newspaper comic strips.

While she never worked directly for the comics (they being beneath someone of her status) her comic strips Ben Bolt, and Little Miss Muffet were collected and reprinted in comic book form.
