Batman's Bewitched Nightmare; The House of "Flashy" Traps! last edited by MickRory on 03/02/23 02:36PM View full history

“Batman’s Bewitched Nightmare.” The Outsider uses the Witch to try and destroy Batman and Robin.

An apparent witch has appeared in Gotham City and is attempting to impede Batman's crusade against crime by helping out crooks that Batman is trying to stop. Chasing a gang to a local farm, Batman is turned into a scarecrow, until Robin is able to knock the witch off her broomstick and take possession of it himself, thereby canceling out the spell on Batman.

Batman rounds up the crooks and Robin defeats the Witch, the dynamic duo then turns them over to the police. Placing the witches broom in their trophy room, it suddenly starts giving off a recorded message from the Outsider, who vows that he will strike against Batman soon.

    Notes

    • Alfred Pennyworth's appearance is as the Outsider.
    • In Justice League of America #51 Zatanna reveals to Batman that she came to Gotham disguised as the witch in an effort to find out if the Outsider knew the location of her father Zatara.

Despite this the two heroes make a number of illogical assumptions in order to save themselves. It gets even weirder as the witch is not who she seems to be, and then even weirder because this issue later gets retconned in Justice League of America #51 so that Zatanna is the witch. It is the weakest of the series of stories that leads up to Zatanna finding her fa...
