BRIEF HISTORY
The history of Cyprus starts from 10th millennium BC and the archaeological evidence lays on the village of Choirokitoia with the remain ruins of a neolithic village in the area .
its strategic position brought many conquerors to Cyprus such as the Phoenicians, Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, French, Venetian, Arabs, British , Turks and many others . Cyprus's rich copper resources were very valuable particularly during the Golden Era; The name 'Cyprus' originates from the Latin word Cuprum ( Copper) .
Cyprus gained independence from the British in 1960 and in 1963 it officially was named as the republic of Cyprus and its celebrated every 1st of October . In 1974 Cyprus was divided by the Turkish Troops after the attacks on the Turkish Cypriots by Greek ultra-nationalists grew. In 1983 the Turkish Cypriots called up the Turkish Republich of North Cyprus. The border which seperates the isle is the buffer zone which was established by the Turkish, Greek and British governments after the "Bloody Noel" (the massacre and dispossession of Turks by the EOKA in 1963).
Cyprus as a small island have only 4 cities plus 2 occupied by the Turkish Attila . Also Cyprus is the only country in the world with a divided capital .
Cyprus is the third larger island in the Mediterranean sea and the worlds 81st larger .
