Venarium last edited by pikahyper on 10/01/19 12:40AM View full history

The rising storm continues to swell in this new chapter of "Born on the Battlefield." Just as Alcibades swore they would, the Aquilonians have come to Cimmeria. As part of their territorial expansion, they establish an outpost called Venarium (literally 'hunting town'). Meanwhile the Cimmerian tribes have chosen Gwydd, of the Pictkiller clan whose experience in battle with the Picts make him the most seasoned war veteran.

Gwydd tries everything from raiding supply lines to burning crops to try to drive the Aquilonians out of Cimmeria. But when Conan discovers his old enemy Donal crucified to a tree, their past squabbles are forgotten and Conan calls for more desperate measures.

Kurt Busiek and Greg Ruth return to Conan, launching the thunderous conclusion to their critically acclaimed saga of the barbarian's youth.

    Conan as Highland Rogue 0

After a long hiatus, Kurt Busiek and Greg Ruth return to Conan with the first of a two part story that will round out the back story of Conan's youth.  Unlike so many other Conan storytellers (notably Harry Turtledove who wrote a novel about this same period in the barbarian's life), Busiek manages to make the story seem real in a pseudo-historical sort of context - evoking the struggles of Celtic tribes against Roman expansionism.  A number of subplots tie this issue together with the other chr...

Born on the Battlefield: Friends and Foes Die. 0

This is the continuation of the Born on the Battlefield story, essentially the origin of Conan. One of my favorites in the series, it apparently is ending next issue. Incidentally in the letters section of the comic it states that Conan is ending with issue fifty! What the heck is that? They are going to rebrand it to Conan of Cimmeria #1. The artists, writers and such are all different now and I suppose they want a change. I think it is utter crap personally. Just how different is it going...
