    Raccoon City Incident

    RE2 Claire Redfield
    RE2 Claire Redfield

Late September of 1998 Claire travels to Raccoon City on her motorcycle to investigate her brother's mysterious disappearance. When she arrives she finds the town mostly deserted. When she enters a restaurant she comes face to face with her first T-Virus carrier. She manages to escape the restaurant and comes face to face with Leon Scott Kennedy, a rookie police officer scheduled to start with the Raccoon City Police. Just as the two begin getting acquainted they find themselves separated, both trying to reach the police station. Fighting their way to safety they manage to eventually meet up on the second floor. The two have run into two other survivors and they split up again trying to find a safe way out of the police station that is crawling with zombies, bio-weapons, and to escape the city. Claire is searching for Sherry Birkin, a young girl that is the daughter of two of Umbrella's chief researchers. Eventually, Sherry joins Claire in escaping the station and down into the sewers.

The duo gets separated when a sewer drain opens and sucks the small girl down. There, the unconscious Sherry becomes infected with the G-Virus by her father, William Birkin who himself is a mutated beast after he injected himself with the G-Virus. Claire must race against time to find an antidote to the virus before it can hatch within the little girl. Claire had previously dealt with a creature that hatched from a non-compatible host.

Annette Birkin, Sherry's mother, gives Claire the means to save Sherry just before she dies. Claire injects the young girl with the anti-virus and the two manage to escape the city via an underground train. Leon also escapes on the same train. However the train is attacked by a very mutated William Birkin, no longer even resembling the man he once was, and it triggers the biohazard alarm on the train triggering the train's self-destruct sequence. The trio escape just as the bomb blows the train and all that remains of Birkin.

    Rockfort Island

Sometime later, Claire leaves Sherry in Leon's care and she travels to Europe in search of her brother. A few months later, Claire is captured in Paris after having infiltrated an Umbrella facility in search of information concerning her brother. However, she is transported to the Umbrella prison facility of Rockfort Island by soldiers under the control of Rodrigo Juan Raval, though he later frees Claire during the HCF's (Hive Capture Force) attack upon the island.

Avoiding the hordes of undead, Claire eventually meets Steve Burnside, (a fellow survivor and former inmate), who agrees to help Claire escape from Rockfort. Though apparently disappearing, Burnside later returns to save Claire from a Bandersnatch with the Dual-Gold Lugers he stole from the Ashford residence earlier on.

Claire exchanges a pair of submachineguns for the Lugers, allowing her to access the hidden mansion located on the Island. With access to the Hidden mansion (or Ashford residence) Claire uncovers the secrets of the island and discovers an escape route leading to the Rockfort military air base (though access to the air plane located there required 3 emblems). Upon locating the emblems, Redfield and Burnside race against the clock to avoid the self destruction of the island, eventually escaping via sea plane.

However, a Tyrant smuggles aboard the plane and attacks the pair, forcing the outmatched duo to use a cargo conveyor belt to knock the Tyrant out of the rear landing bay. However, during the conflict the Sea Plane's navigation is altered by an auto-pilot that diverts the survivors to the Umbrella Antarctic base, where Claire is once again forced to escape whilst fighting off hordes of the undead. During the confusion Burnside is abducted by Alexia Ashford and injected with the T-Veronica virus, mutating into an axe-wielding giant intent upon killing Claire.

However, a shred of humanity remains, and Steve sacrifices himself to protect Claire from Alexia Ashford, reverting to his human form before dying. Simultaneous to events at the Antarctic base, Chris Redfield receives a message from Leon warning of his sister's demise. Chris arrives in time to rescue his sister, and he subsequently confronts Alexia Ashford in the bowels of the facility (a confrontation that the mutated madwoman would not survive).

Chris also discovers that the main architect of the rockford attack was none other than Albert Wesker, who was believed to have been killed during the Arklay mansion incident. As can be expected a fist fight ensues, with Claire taking advantage of the situation to prepare a jet aircraft for escape. Separated from Wesker by falling debris, Chris joins his sister and both Redfields escape from the Antarctic base vowing to destroy Umbrella.

Claire next resurfaces in the year 2005 as an activist for the organization Terrasave, a charity opposed to the development and sale BOWs (Bio Organic Weapons). In the process of meeting up with a family she has been assigned to, Claire is once again thrust into a B.O.W outbreak when anti-Umbrella terrorist Curtis Miller targets senator Ron Davis who also happens to be present at Harvardville airport.

During the outbreak Claire manages to barricade herself and a little girl (Rani) inside of the airport offices in order to last out until help arrives. Such aid is eventually deployed in the form of Special Agent Leon S Kennedy and S.W.A.T members Angela Miller and Greg Glenn, who rescue Claire and the other survivors from the onslaught of T virus infected staff members (though Glenn fails to escape with the others).

Upon debriefing following the attack it is revealed that Curtis Miller is Angela Miller's brother; a survivor of Raccoon city who seeks revenge against Umbrella, the U.S government and Senator Ron Davis for involvement in the crisis that killed his family. Claire and Leon vow to help Angela uncover the conspiracy concerning Senator Ron Davis and the attack on Harvadville airport.

The Conspiracy Behind Penamstan's Civil War

    Appearance

Claire has long auburn hair tied to a ponytail and blue eyes. Claire's original outfit in Resident Evil 2 consisted of a black short-sleeved, short-legged cycling skinsuit worn under a pink vest with a "Made in Heaven" design on the back (which she gave it to Sherry at the end of the game), pink-colored jean shorts, brown boots, and black riding gloves. Her special outfit in the game consists of a leather jacket and pants with a "Let Me Live" design on the back and a red bandanna. The "Let Me Live" design is also featured on a different outfit in Resident Evil Code Veronica. The "Made in Heaven" design seems to show her connection to Chris who sported this on the back of his special outfit in the first game.

In Darkside Chronicles and Operation Racoon City, Claire has a two-piece suit, her pink vest has an extended collar. She wears blue denim short shorts with a brown side pouch and western-style cowboy boots. She also has rider goggles on her neck. In the former game and Mercenaries 3D, Claire has fingerless gloves, and her jeans have holes in each side.

In Resident Evil Code Veronica, Claire's hair was still tied in a ponytail and her eyes are blue. She wears a red denim vest with a three flame design on the left side, and at the back, it has a "Let me Live" design on her vest, underneath a black short sleeve low cut shirt that bares her midriff, blue jeans with a red belt and brown shoes. She also wears brown fingerless gloves and a pink choker on her neck. Since Code Veronica and onwards, Claire was depicted to have long auburn hair and blue eyes during cutscenes and her outfits were either pink or red.

In the animated film Resident Evil Degeneration, Claire's hair was red instead of auburn. She was dressed casually in an off-white short sleeve button shirt with a dark pink turtleneck shirt, dark khaki pants with a brown belt to her waist, and brown shoes.

In Resident Evil Revelations 2, Claire wears a white long sleeve button-up shirt along with her signature red leather jacket, blue jeans with a matching belt, and black biker boots. She later receives a monitoring bracelet on her left wrist following her co-workers including Moira being captured by the militia led by Alex. She also gains a black nylon utility belt on her waist and a gun holster on her right where she keeps her handgun and knife. Her Island default outfit is later worn by Ali Larter in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter only her jeans appear black instead of blue. Claire later regains her Island default outfit in the animated CGI series, Resident Evil: Infinity Darkness. her red leather jacket is now the same color as her leather jacket in Resident Evil 2 Remake, her belt is now black to match up to her biker boots and her jeans are now medium blue.

At 1 point during Barry's story which takes place 6 months later, Claire's hair was cut short. She wears a red long sleeve v-neck shirt with a black pocket on the left side, a black shoulder holster. However, she maintains her jeans with a matching blue belt and boots as well. She also wears black fingerless gloves, a matching utility belt, and black and orange rider goggles on her neck. She is no longer wearing the monitoring bracelet on her left wrist due to its removal after being treated in the hospital. The outfit that she wears was her Sniper outfit which later becomes playable in Raid mode.

In the epilogue, Claire wears her island default outfit from the beginning of the game, but her hair remains short.

She also wears four DLC costumes in the game which are her Sniper outfit, her classic attire in Resident Evil 2, a cowboy outfit, and her TerraSave outfit. Her cowboy outfit has her wearing a red and black short-sleeved mini collared button plaid top with a ribbon tied at the center that exposes more of her midriff, pale blue denim short shorts with a large white side belt around her waist, and white cowboy boots. She also let her long auburn hair loose while wearing a white cowboy hat. She is accessorized with a large dark blue bracelet on her right that resembles a gauntlet and retains the monitoring bracelet on her left.

In the manga series BIOHAZARD Heavenly Island which takes place after Resident Evil 6, Claire's short hair has grown into a medium length and it was loose. Her outfit is a combination of her film version in Resident Evil: Afterlife and her Sniper outfit in Resident Evil: Revelations 2.

She wears a red leather vest with a white sleeveless loose shirt with a knot tied at the left side on her waist, she maintains her pants, black biker boots and her nylon utility belt from her Sniper outfit in Revelations 2 and her belt is now brown and she no longer wears gloves but only wears a black watch on her left wrist.

Later she wears a similar outfit as the first outfit only her top is replaced with a dark blue tank top, her pants became pale blue and her medium auburn hair is now tied in a ponytail. She later let her hair loose at the end of the manga while wearing a short-sleeved button-up flannel shirt, jeans, and black rider boots when she reported to her brother Chris about the Sonido de Tortuga incident by typing from her laptop.

In Resident Evil 2 Remake, Claire now has smaller and younger features, as well as light brown hair instead of auburn seen in Revelations 2. Instead of wearing her cycling skinsuit in the original Resident Evil 2, she wears a combination between her red vest in CODE: Veronica and her jeans with holsters in Revelations 2. She now wears a red leather jacket with an extended collar, a black tank top with a white undershirt beneath it, indigo jeans with a black belt along with a gun holster on her right leg, and brown biker boots. The "Made in Heaven" logo is now the same color as her jacket and wears a necklace with a sharp knife design. She later gives her jacket to Sherry, and from that part on, wears her tank top and her undershirt beneath it.

    Personality

Claire is strong-willed and tomboyish, having grown up confident with training from her older brother, Chris. Her bond with her brother is quite strong, as we first see her coming to look for him after he had gone missing from his home in Raccoon City. Immediately after the events of the outbreak, she passionately continues her search, which results in her infiltrating Umbrella's Paris Lab Facility just to find Chris, despite her being only nineteen years old and still in college. In the Resident Evil 2 remake, Claire is more stoic and prone to bursts of swearing and anger as in her interactions with Annette and when she was attacked by Chief Irons. However conversely in the remake Claire does soften up and become affectionate when with Sherry or reuniting with Leon at the fire escape, also despite Claire's initial anger towards Annette, she was forgiving when the latter was dying in front of her and Sherry.

At the end of Revelations 2 during her contact with a BSAA member, she also shows her deep concern towards her brother Chris after being informed that he is in China. She then tells him to let Piers take care of him, her concern for her older brother still coming through. Though Claire cares for her older brother and there are times when the siblings don't get along, as revealed when Moira Burton complains about the times Barry bossed her around, Claire responds "My brother was like that growing up too". In the remake Claire shows how proud she is of Chris as when Irons holds her hostage, Claire threatens the corrupt police chief that her brother is an officer of S.T.A.R.S. Claire later becomes friends with Barry Burton, due to his strong friendship with her brother, and became best friends with his daughter, Moira.

She is initially deeply emotional and having great compassion, being one of the few heroes to display rash and strong emotions ranging from fear, anger, and sadness. Claire was audibly tearful when Elliot was ripped in half in front of her during the Resident Evil 2 remake, apologizing to his corpse for being unable to save him, and in Code: Veronica Claire was tearful when Steve Burnside died in her arms after professing his love. Claire shows her caring nature in her protection of Sherry and Rani and putting their safety above her own. By the time of the attack on Harvardville airport, Claire demonstrates more professionalism and level-headedness when faced with drastic situations. Claire still occasionally allows bursts of emotion to shine through her more adult exterior usually a result of anger at people that mindlessly or selfishly cause harm to others, as seen when Claire slaps and insults Senator Ron Davis for endangering Rani's life. Later in life, Claire became more hardened and serious, shown by her almost never losing her cool in the incident at Sushestovanie Island, only becoming distressed when thinking Moria had been killed and trying to explain the situation to her father Barry in hospital.

When she was younger, Claire showed an interest in biking, she is seen driving her Harley Davidson into Raccoon City though she left the bike after the zombie encounter and meeting Leon. Claire also wore her bike vest with a picture of an angel (goddess) with bombs and the words "Made in Heaven" on the back. Claire gives this vest to Sherry to keep, Claire in the remake claims her jacket is a good charm. This style of wardrobe is likely inherited from her older brother as Chris keeps a jacket with the same insignia by his desk. Years later, Claire seems to have given up on her biking life after joining TerraSave, evident by the epilogue of Revelations 2. She didn't ride a bike to Barry's house but went in an SUV.

Claire is quick to draw opinions on people, whether it be when she feels someone is hiding secrets, or even when someone is wholly untrustworthy (as mentioned when she tries to warn Sherry about her feelings on Derek C. Simmons). Claire in the Resident Evil 2 remake quickly became angry with Annette for her poor treatment of her daughter Sherry and swore at the scientist. Subsequently, she easily establishes connections with people, despite sometimes seeming aloof and sarcastic as she initially treated both Leon S. Kennedy and Steve Burnside. However, in the remake, Claire does lightly flirt with Leon and even joked that the Raccoon City incident would've been "one helluva first date". In Code: Veronica Claire returns the romantic affections Steve gave her after getting to know him. Claire was apparently also very close to Neil Fisher in Revelations 2 and deeply sadden at his betrayal and mutation. Prior to the events of Raccoon, City Claire had multiple boyfriends but was never exclusive to a single person.

Claire tends to more response positively to the young girls she meets, Sherry Birkin, Rani Chawla, and Moira Burton, and becomes protective of them. Claire remained in contact with Sherry (with the approval of Sherry's government handler) and it would seem that even Sherry, Rani, and Claire have all spent time together - or at the very least would like to. Claire seems to act as an inspirational figure to some of the younger girls she meets. Although Sherry follows Leon's footsteps as a government agent, Sherry acknowledges that both Claire and Leon helped her form her personality as someone who does not give up and sees the good in people. At some point, Claire also establishes a connection to Moira Burton, the older daughter of Barry Burton, and is the eventual inspiration for Moira to join TerraSave. Though Sherry demonstrates Claire's knack for occasional sass, Claire, having been one of the very few people she was allowed to interact with within her life.

Like Chris, Jill, Rebecca, and Barry, she dislikes Albert Wesker and later Alex Wesker, known to them as the Overseer, because of Alex's experiments on fear taking the life of her colleagues. In the climax fight against Monster Alex, Claire manages to shoot her with an RPG-7 as instructed by Barry mirroring how her older brother Chris and his partner Sheva Alomar kill Albert with the same weapon as Jill instructs them to use it. She also dislikes other people inflated with Umbrella such as Alfred and Alexia.
