Cap is awakened in the dead of the night by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. who need the kind of help only he can provide. But the corpse he finds on the Heli-carrier brings him face-to-face with the unthinkable, and opens doors to terror and manipulation that he never dreamed possible. Award-winning writer Ed Brubaker and phenomenal artist Steve Epting kick it into high gear, and fans will be stunned!
S.H.I.E.L.D. discovers the Red Skull's body and brings Captain America into the investigation. While Cap is reluctant to believe the Skull is actually dead, his doubts begin to fade as the pieces fall into place -- especially when S.H.I.E.L.D. techs finds a clue that leads to an A.I.M. splinter group called A.I.D. (Advanced Ideas in Destruction) who had plans to set off bombs on the Skull's order in Manhattan, London and Paris.
Cap and Sharon Carter manage to stop the bomb beneath Manhattan from going off, but one of the Skull's lieutenants escapes and puts the word out to the others that the master is dead, and the world should be set on fire in his memory.
While Cap struggled to accept that his longtime foe is dead, he must also accept that whoever killed him has the Cosmic Cube. A device that could destroy the world with just a thought is somewhere out there, on the loose...
