    Origin

    X-Men Legacy 240
    X-Men Legacy 240

Like the other Children of the Vault, Cadena (Spanish, meaning 'Chain') is not a Homo superior (mutant) or Homo sapiens sapiens (regular human being) but the member of a completely different human species that has evolved biologically, culturally, and technologically over the course of six thousand years. Her people's advanced technology allows her to have superhuman abilities in the form of a special suit she wears; once the battery runs out, however, she'll be powerless.

When Sangre the former leader of the Children of the Vault failed in his mission and was killed by Mystique it was Cadena that sword revenge, now, not only content for wiping out humanity and mutant kind, but also getting personal revenge against the X-Men. She emerged from a secret base in Ecuador swearing this.

The next time we see Cadena, she is fully established as the new leader of the Children of the Vault and her priority is with powering and completing the Angelfire device, a massive machine that would use people as batteries to power the city the Children of the Vault occupied. One of these batteries however, Luz, escaped to Earth, once again, bringing the Children of the Vault into conflict with the X-Men.  There is a potential subtle implication that Cadena and Sangre may have been partners when she realized the X-Man Rogue was present and that she could avenge Sangre's death.

    Creation

Cadena was created by Mike Carey and Chris Bachalo and first appeared in X-Men Vol 2 (2006) alongside the rest of her team the Children of the Vault. Like her fellow Children of the Vault Cadena , has Spanish influences, her alternative name The Chain.

    Powers and Abilities

A globe of electricity surrounds her head, which she can manipulate into electrical chains. Her powers are energy-based. She is required to wear a containment suit. She is super strong and can see beyond the human scope of the visual spectrum. She is fluent in both English and Spanish. She has sworn that this is not the last the X-Men have seen of the Children of the Vault.
