Cable, infected with a techno-organic virus since birth, battles his toughest adversary yet; his growing sense of mortality!
Synopsis
In the rubble of Four Freedoms Plaza, Cable lies dying. The strain of his fights with Onslaught appear to have taxed his body beyond repair and the techno-organic virus now runs unchecked. Nathaniel Richards does what he can, but his opinion of the situation is bleak. Franklin Richards looks on with hope, as does Cannonball, Caliban, Domino, and Storm.
Without warning, Cable lashes out and knocks Cailban from the tower and Cannonball must catch him. Cannonball then begins speaking words to Cable that seem to echo from one of Cable's lost memories. Cable is suddenly in the presence of Genesis - more commonly known as Tyler Dayspring, Cable's son. Tyler looks at peace, showing no signs of his homicidal self. The two men have a quick talk about accepting life for what it is; Tyler asks his father to start living without regret.
At this moment, Nathaniel Richards plunges his hand into Cable's heart to try and jumpstart the body. The maneuver has no effect, as the T-O virus seems to have entered Cable's brain. The metallic parts on Cable multiply and nearly consume the host body. Things look bad. Franklin Richards, however, tries his best to alter reality just a bit.
In Cable's mind, his dead wife Aliya shows up and reminds Cable that he is incapable of healing if he cannot let go of the past. She urges Cable to open his heart again. This is enough; Cable takes back control of his body and rises from his bed whole.
