In an attempt to kill Dr. Manhattan after Veidt's plan was discovered, Veidt used Bubastis as bait to lure Jon into an intrinsic field extractor ( the same device that made Jon into a super-being ). before activating the extractor, Veidt apologized for what he was about to do to her and the extractor disintegrated both Jon and Bubastis. Jon however shortly reformed, unaffected by Veidt's attempt on his life.
