"The Case of the Patriotic Crimes!"

The Liberty Train, carrying historical American documents, vanishes mid-route. After a meeting at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Black Canary summons the Justice Society of America. Upon arriving at the Justice Society of America's headquarters, though, the Black Canary finds it empty. The Justice Society of America have become slaves to the Injustice Society of the World. The Black Canary discovers the Harlequin, under the meeting table. Before the Harlequin can reveal what has happened to the Justice Society of America, the Icicle enters the room. The Icicle flash freezes both women before they can react. The Harlequin, and the Black Canary are brought before the Injustice Society of the World, and strapped into the Mind Eraser.

The Injustice Society of the World enter into a contest to see who can pull off the more spectacular robbery. The Wizard has already thrown down the gauntlet, by stealing the Liberty Train. The Harlequin brings the Black Canary up to speed. The Harlequin had received an invitation, to join the Injustice Society of the World. Not truly a villain, the Harlequin accepted the invitation, in order protect the Green Lantern. The Harlequin offered to trap the Justice Society of America, but actually went to warn them. The Harlequin followed the Atom to the Justice Society of America's headquarters, then warned them of the Injustice Society of the World's intentions. The Sportsmaster entered the room, before the Harlequin could divulge the whereabouts of the Injustice Society of the World.

The Harlequin had dropped her diary, in the hidden lair of the Injustice Society of the World, which revealed her plan to betray them. Before anyone could react, the Sportsmaster gassed the Justice Society of America. The Harlequin's unconscious body rolled under the meeting table, leading the Sportsmaster to believe she had been vaporized by his gas explosion. In the clutches of the Injustice Society of the World, the Justice Society of America were subjected to the MInd Eraser, which made them slaves to their nemeses. The Harlequin uses her hypnotic eyeglasses to override the effects of the Mind Eraser, securing her, and the Black Canary's, release from the MInd Eraser.

Unbeknownst to the Justice Society of America, their actions are being observed by the Wizard, who sees the flaw in the Harlequin's hypnotic effect. The Justice Society of America learn where the Injustice Society of the World's next crimes will be committed. The Sportsmaster deploys a decoy to lure the crew of "Old Ironsides" off the ship. The Hawkman confronts the Sportsmaster. Though the Hawkman manages to render the Sportsmaster unconscious, the Wizard suddenly appears, and snaps his fingers. The Harlequin's hypnotic trance is broken, placing Hawkman back under the control of the Injustice Society of the World. The Hawkman aids the Sportsmaster in stealing "Old Ironsides".

The Fiddler makes a play to steal the Freedom Bell. Doctor MId-Nite, and Wonder Woman, confront the Fiddler. Momentarily at a disadvantage, the Fiddler manages to trap his foes inside the Freedom Bell. The Fiddler floods the bell with gas. Breathing through the crack in the Freedom Bell, Doctor Mid-NIte, and Wonder Woman, are able to keep themselves from succumbing to the gas. The Fiddler is apprehended. Snapping his fingers, the Fiddler breaks the Harlequin's hypnotic trance, placing Doctor Mid-Nite, and Wonder Woman, back under the control of the Injustice Society of the World. Doctor Mid-Nite, and Wonder Woman, aid the Fiddler in stealing the Freedom Bell. The Huntress uses circus animals to steal Plymouth Rock.

The Atom, and the Flash, confront the Huntress. The Atom, and the Flash, apprehend the Huntress. The Huntress jumps through a wooden ramp, creating a loud enough snap to counteract the Harlequin's hypnotic trance. The Atom, and the Flash, back under the control of the Injustice Society of the world, aid the Huntress in stealing Plymouth Rock. The Icicle commandeers the Navy's new Super Ram-Jet. The Icicle steals the Washington Monument. The Green Lantern is accidentally caught, and lashed to, the Washington Monument, by the Super Ram-Jet's cables. The Green Lantern breaks free, and confronts the Icicle. The Green Lantern battles the Icicle to a stalemate. The Green Lantern snaps several cables, bringing the Washington Monument back to the ground.

Still attached by the remaining cables, the Super Ram-Jet becomes moored to the Washington Monument. The Green Lantern apprehends the Icicle. The Green Lantern snaps his fingers, remembering that he still needs to return the Washington Monument. The snap brings him out of the Harlequin's hypnotic trance, and returns him to the control of the Injustice Society of the World. The Green Lantern aids the Icicle in stealing the Washington Monument. The Black Canary, and the Harlequin, are subdued by the Wizard. When they revive, they find themselves in an underground chamber, along with the enslaved members of the Justice Society of America. The Justice Society of America, the Black Canary, and the Harlequin are locked in a mine car, and sent to the bottom of the a shaft, to die.

The Injustice Society of the World call on the people to decide which robbery is the most spectacular. The Icicle uses the Super-Ram-Jet to carry Gotham Stadium to the Injustice Society of the World's hidden lair. The crowds in the stadium are tasked with deciding who has pulled off the greater robbery. Instead of voting, they attack, en masse, the Injustice Society of the World. The Harlequin, and the Black Canary, convince the Green Lantern that he is one of the world's greatest crime fighters, not a slave. The simple act of witnessing the Green Lantern flying, with the use of his power ring, shocks the Justice Society of America out from under the control of the Injustice Society of the World.

The Justice Society of America confront the Injustice Society of the World. With the defeat of the Injustice Society of the World, the Green Lantern finds a note from the Harlequin, warning him that their next encounter won't be as friendly. With the case closed, the Justice Society of America officially induct the Black Canary into their ranks.
