Kal, Lois, and Lex as kids!

    Project Superman #2 of 3.

Ok so this issue does have to do with Kal-El. Last issue I think we were supposed to be introduced to Project 0 as a superman. So this issue is about "the" superman as a project. So this issue mainly revolves on Kal-El being used as a lab rat. They keep running these projects on him, not allowing him to grow on his own. Krypto even makes an appearance in this issue as Kal's only companion and friend. General Lane tries to treat Kal as a father but the researches won't allow that. As the issue goes on Project 0 figures out a way to communicate with Kal. He starts to tell him that he shouldn't get close to anyone and don't comply with anything they say. He even mind controls Krypto to star killing off some guards. We see Lex Luthor's father in this issue and Lex as a little kid but I think he gets killed by Krypto. GO FIGURE. We also see Lois Lane as General Lane's daughter and she meets Kal. Meanwhile Project 0 breaks free and figures out the woman running this project thing is evil and destroys her and her. 0 comes after Kal hoping that Kal will break free with him but Kal tries to protect Lois. General Lane comes in and saves everyone by taking himself and 0 to the phantom zone! The issue ends with a new general taking over and Kal wanting to see Lois again.

    The GOOD!

There were several things that I found interesting in this comic. Seeing Kal as a test subject was sad but it was a different re-telling of his past. I liked seeing Lois and Lex as kids. Even Krypto's appearance and killing spree was pretty cool! General Lane and Project 0's characters I thought were really cool. I thought 0 trying to help kal was cool and Lane's ultimate sacrifice was even better!

Art: The art was really good. You can feel the intensity in certain scenes. I really liked the action scenes and the x-ray scenes! The cover was pretty cool!

    The BAD!

I still can't fight the feeling that this story feels totally useless! I mean almost everything feels useless now that the new 52's are coming. I know, I know it shouldn't matter and just  enjoy the stories that are out now. Well yeah easier said then done! Even to the Flashpoint plot this story feels lost and unrelated.

    The VERDICT!

To the story itself was cool and fun to read but if your looking for something that is totally critical to Flashpoint this comic isn't it. I say pick it up! 4 out of 5!

Yes, you find out how they killed Krypto. The DCU relaunch is approaching and DC and Grant Morrison are emphasizing the "alien" aspects to the character.  While I am hesitant about the idea, as I feel like Superman may be the most human of all characters, this issue may be a peak into how they play into those aspects.  Last issue, was a strange issue that almost stood on its own without many ties to the Flashpoint title or even ties to the DCU.  It was a very Dr. Manhattan-esque character piece...

This was the second chapter in what covers Superman’s life in the Flashpoint universe, and I sort of enjoyed it. I just recently reread a Silver Age story covering Superman’s infancy, “Superboy’s First Foster-Parents” from Superboy #133, and it was interesting to see how that childhood sharply contrasted with the grim one presented in Project Superman. Where the Silver Age childhood is very light and happy, Kal’s young life in Flashpoint is filled with loneliness and torture. You really feel f...
