Flashpoint #3 - Flashpoint: Chapter Three of Five

5

Comic events should be filled with 'holy crap!' moments, scenes of awe, excitement and sadness. This issue of Flashpoint has all of that and more. All the pieces are fitting together for the DC Universe and you will be blown away by what happens here.

Halfway through DC's biggest event of the year (until September) and before you even get halfway through this issue, you will be impressed.

The Good

This is what I want in an event book. I feel like I shouldn't have to mention the great job that Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert did but of course I will. Johns continues the story after Barry Allen's insane attempt to regain his powers last issue. With only one ally, this world's Batman, things aren't looking too great for their cause.

Before I got halfway, there were a couple "Holy Crap!' moments. Stuff happens that made me want to immediately discuss with those around me, only they haven't read the issue yet. Without going any further into detail, all I will say is everything is falling into place. The pieces are all coming together. It's all making sense. If there are people choosing to pass on this series and wait until September's relaunch books, they will be missing out on an extremely fun ride.

The Bad

There was one quick panel that made me very sad. Also, I think it's too much of a coincidence that the government would claim the ship from Krypton and call it Project: Superman.

The Verdict

An action packed issue marking the halfway point of Flashpoint. This issue has some crazy moments, some kick-ass scenes and even a moment of sadness. Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert continue this amazing ride as we see the events of this different version of the DC Universe unfold. Everything is beginning to make sense and all the pieces are falling into place. I had some suspicions before and it's great to get some confirmations (or denials). Readers shouldn't pass on this series in the plans of just picking up DC comics in September with the relaunch titles. There is a lot going on here and some great and fun storytelling.
