    Flash Gordon is a sci-fi hero from 1930's. An exceptional athlete and courageous man, Flash was dubbed "King Of the Impossible" due to many fantastic adventures and accomplishments including thwarting an invasion from the planet Mongo orchestrated by his arch nemesis Ming the Merciless. Flash Gordon was originally owned and published by King Features Syndicate and has since been licensed by several other companies for movies and comics.

    The latest rumor revolving around the prospective Flash Gordon film is who will play the lead role? While the source of the news may not necessarily be the most reliable, it is the first time we have heard about the project since May. According to a recent report from the folks over at Hollysource, Sam Worthington, who you may have seen in Avatar is in the running to play the lead in the Flash Gordon film. Supposedly, Worthington may be up against Ryan Reynolds and "two other" actors. The unnamed source cited that Sam is one of this years biggest stars, and it would only seem appropriate that he would play Flash.

    “Right now it’s between Sam, Ryan Reynolds and one or two others for the lead role should the project actually get off the ground.”

    Whether or not the source has any credibility is one thing, but at least it is some news about Flash Gordon, which we have heard nothing about in quite some time. The idea that Reynolds is also in the running to play Flash Gordon seems unlikely considering he has his plate pretty full between his upcoming role as Deadpool and Hal Jordan in Green Lantern, but who knows? According to IMDB, a Flash Gordon film is set for release in 2012 and will be directed by Breck Eisner (Sahara) and scripted by Matt Sazama ( Dracula Year Zero) and Burk Sharpless ( Dracula Year Zero). Are you a Flash Gordon fan? Did you read the comics as a kid, or watch the movie? Who could you see playing the lead?

    Well, is Sam Worthington really in the running for this movie, or is his name out there because he is the hottest name on everyone's lips right now because of the film he's currently starring in? Look how often Megan Fox's name pops up for films. Doesn't make her right for the roles.

    If Ryan Reynolds would play in this movie. It would be quite the sweep of comic book movies. Sort of reminds me of a decade ago when Tommy Lee Jones was in just about every film within a single year. I actually could see Reynolds playing Flash. I don't know much of Worthington's work. I'm seeing Avatar this coming weekend. The Flash Gordon story always reminded me of Farscape. Ben Browder really owned that John Crichton character. I'd love to see a Farscape movie.
     
    The most I know of Flash Gordon was that classic movie with the great Vultan! Oh, I never tire of that image. Got to love Brian Blessed.

    My first introdcution to Flash Gordon was on TV with the old black and white film / serials starring Buster Crabbe as the lead character. 
    The 1980's movie was enjoyable as well. 
    I think that a new production of Flash Gordon could be quite good, as long as the scripting is tight and yes Sam Worthington could be a interesting choice.

    I really don't find Ryan Reynolds all that great to be honest. Yes he's good looking, yes he's been in lots of comedy movies. But there's nothing that really stands out for him to be every frickin male comic character out there.

    Worthington was also in Terminator Salvation, wasn't he? I'd look it up but I just don't feel like it right now :) Wasn't he also mentioned to be in the lead of all the actors to play Cap? Oh well, my only opinion on the matter is they need this man to play Ming.

    Now that I could most definitely see. Have him grow his hair out a little bit and he could certainly pull off the Buster Crabbe (Original Flash Gordon) look.

    I thought Flash Gordon would be remade sooner or later. However, I don't think Sam Worthington should be Flash. He's a really good actor but I don't think he should be Flash.

     I just saw Terminator Salvation again for the second time. He was amazing in that movie. He does a good job playing the badass. He was okay in Avatar though. I think the effects simply stole the show.
