Firelord is a former Herald of Galactus.
Nova Corps
Pyreus Kril is an alien from the planet Xandar, homeland of the Nova Corps. He first appeared in " Thor" vol. 1 #225 (July, 1974). He is a graduate of the Nova Corps Academy and served as a member of the Corps, the military and exloratoro force of the planet. In his first assignment, Pyreus served in a ship under the command of Gabriel Lan (later Gabriel the Air-Walker). Gabriel was soon abducted by Galactus and converted into his newest herald. Pyreus assumed command of the ship and begun an obsessive search for Galactus. He was determined to retrieve his commander and friend at all costs.Herald of Galactus
By the time he did reach Galactus, Gabriel had been slain in battle. Galactus was considering creating a new herald and saw Pyreus as a volunteer. He served loyal for a time but then asked for his freedom. Galactus agreed on the promise Pyreus would provide a suitable replacement herald. After an agreement with Thor, the herald offered was the Destroyer armor. Meaning sentient heralds were replaced for a while by an emotionless device.After the destruction of his homeworld, he and Starfox sought out Nebula, the one responsible for the destruction and deaths of billions. He planned for vengeance. In the search, he found the whereabouts of the Silver Surfer. He blamed the Surfer for Gabriel's death, if the Surfer had not stopped being Galactus' herald he would not have chosen Gabriel. He fought the Surfer but was no match for him. He eventually realized the Surfer was not at fault and they have been allies since.
He spent much time with Starfox on Titan after this. When Thanos abducted Starfox, he and Drax searched for him. Firelord fought alongside the other heroes against Thanos in the Infinity Gauntlet.
After the Infinity Gauntlet, Firelord now had found Nebula. She was detained on Titan. He planned to kill her to avenge the deaths of his race. Starfox stopped him by linking their minds so he could feel her pain. He could not forgive her but he pitied her after this. He then went with Starfox on some 'adventures.'
The Herald Ordeal
After Starfox returned home, Firelord was sought out by the Silver Surfer. Despite their past he asked for his assistance. Together they gathered the other former heralds of Galactus to battle Morg, Galactus' new herald and a bloodthirsty murderer. They found Nova and Firelord brought them to the location where he buried the robotic body of Air-Walker. They resurrected him and helped him remember who he was. They all battled Morg and even Firelord was extremely injured in battle. When Galactus removed Morg's cosmic power they were able to defeat him. Since he had no ohter place to be, he offered his services once again to Galactus along with Air-Walker. They became his new heralds and tried to steer Galactus away from populated worlds. With Galactus' technology he was also better able to repair Air-Walker.Later Events
During the Infinity Crusade, Firelord was controlled by the Goddess and made a member of her Holy Guard. When the Silver Surfer defected from the group, Firelord attacked the infidel. His power not being as great as the Surfer's caused his defeat. The spell was broken when he and the other members witnessed the true plans of the Goddess, which was to destroy all life in the universe.Firelord was no longer needed as herald when Morg returned from his imprisonment. Morg killed Air Walker and brought Firelord to near death. The Silver Surfer defeated Morg and arranged to have Galactus heal Firelord. His friend was too damaged and had to be integrated into Galactus' ship and Firelord left with the Surfer.
Firelord has several adventures since, either alone or with other adventurers. He has fought against the X-Men and alongside the Avengers for example. He has suffered a humiliating defeat by Spider-Man. He was much stronger than the latter opponent but was too slow to actually get a single strike against Spidey. Spider-Man used his agility to land repeated strikes and managed to knock him out.
Annihilation
Firelord became the target of the Seekers during Annihilation. The Seekers were designed specifically to capture the Heralds of Galactus for their master Annihilus. Firelord teamed up with Red Shift and they eventually found the Silver Surfer. When the Surfer was summoned by Galactus, his current herald Stardust remained with Firelord to face the Seekers and the Annihilation Wave.After the Annihilation Wave retreated back to the Negative Zone, Firelord began hunting down the Centurions, the remnants of Annihilus' elite strike force. He charged them all with war crimes and killed as many as he could. Through a treaty, Ravenous had been left in control of most of the Skrull and Kree worlds, which he gave to his Centurions. Firelord hunted them down, one by one, doing the job the Nova Corps would do if they were still active.
Powers
Pyreus still wields the Power Cosmic, using it in the form of "cosmic flames" and has essentially been given the power of a living star. He has superhuman strength, reflexes and durability, traits common to all heralds. He is immune to the rigors of space and can travel faster than the speed of light. He wields a cosmic staff that can be used to focus his energies. Firelord can create extreme temperatures.
Alternate Realities
Earth 2149
In this reality, Firelord was one of the few cosmic zombies. He had his bottom jaw smacked off in his fight for flesh his.
Heroes Reborn
In the Heroes Reborn world, Firelord is one of five heralds of Galactus. He has sacrificed himself so that his home planet Xandar could survive Galactus' hunger. Although he does not approve of what Galactus does, he is loyal to him, having made a vow to serve in exchange for the lives of his race.
