Plot Summary

The series deals with alien villain Darkseid's plot to overthrow reality with the Anti-Life Equation, and the subsequent death and corruption of various DC characters and their universe.

Full Plot

Following the final battle of the New Gods, the spirit of the lord of evil, Darkseid, tumbles through time itself, coming to rest on Earth, where it, along with the spirits of the other evil gods of Apokolips, manifests itself in the body of a human being. Darkseid's "fall" has sundered reality, creating a singularity at the heart of creation, into which all of space and time are slowly being drawn, setting the stage for the evil god's final victory, to be claimed in his inevitable death. Through his agent Libra, he arranges for a huge army of super villains to be gathered, who capture and murder the Martian Manhunter as the opening salvo of the conflict. Coinciding with the Manhunter's death is the arrival on Earth of Nix Uotan, an exiled member of the cosmic Monitors, who has been sentenced to become human as punishment for failure in his duties.

Following the trail of a group of missing child prodigies, detective Dan Turpin discovers the dying body of Darkseid's son, Orion. The Justice League of America liaise with the Green Lantern Corps to investigate the murder, deducing the cause of death to be a bullet of Radion—a substance toxic to New Gods—fired backwards through time from the future. New God Granny Goodness, possessing the body of Green Lantern Kraken, stymies the investigation by framing Hal Jordan for the murder; when Batman deduces her true identity, she captures him and teleports him to Command D, a government bio-chemical weapons facility beneath the city of Blüdhaven that has also fallen under the control of Darkseid's minions. Slowly becoming aware of the threat the evil gods pose, Alan Scott enacts "Article X", a super hero draft, that readies Earth's metahuman forces for the coming war.

With Batman and Jordan removed from play, the New Gods continue to eliminate the greatest threats to Darkseid's plan. Wonder Woman is infected by the Morticoccous bacteria by a Desaad-possessed Mary Marvel while investigating Blüdhaven. Superman departs for the future in order to obtain a cure for Lois when a bomb placed in the Daily Planet by Clayface mortally wounds her. The original Flash, Barry Allen, is resurrected from within the Speed Force by powers unknown, but then races back in time alongside Wally West, attempting to outrun the Black Racer, the Death of the New Gods, and stop the bullet that will kill Orion.

Turpin's search for the missing children leads him to the Dark Side Club, where he is confronted by Darkseid's human host, Boss Dark Side. The evil god transfers his essence into Turpin's body and brings him to Command D, where the detective is subjected to bio-genetic restructuring to transform his body into a replica of Darkseid's original form. Concurrently, Darkseid's agents release the Anti-Life Equation through all of Earth's communications networks, spreading it across the entire planet. The two Flashes, having failed to prevent Orion's death, emerge from the time stream one month after the equation's release, and discover that the minds of nearly the entire population have fallen under Darkseid's control, with its super-human victims having been transformed into a military force of "Justifiers".

With the help of the Tattooed Man, the Super Young Team and former allies of the New Gods Shilo Norman and Sonny Sumo, the small cells of super heroes who have managed to resist the equation discover a possible salvation: a symbol from the alphabet of the New Gods that will break the equation's control over minds, which was gifted to the cave-boy Anthro by Metron in prehistoric times. Meanwhile, a huge battle erupts between the superheroes and the Justifiers in Blüdhaven, during which the equation-controlled Wonder Woman infects the heroes with Morticoccous, which strips the heroes of their powers. However, the loss of these troops is soon mitigated by the turning of Libra's Justifiers, control over whom is usurped by Lex Luthor and Doctor Sivana so they can help defeat Darkseid. These twists and turns are observed by Nix Uotan, whose powers and memories of his true nature are unlocked with the help of Metron and a mysterious ape-like figure in a robe.

Escaping confinement in Command D, Batman uses the radion bullet to mortally wound Darkseid, before the dark god uses his Omega Beams to apparently kill the Caped Crusader. Superman returns to the present and tears Command D apart to recover Batman's corpse, and faces off against Darkseid as the Flashes come racing into Blüdhaven, the Black Racer hot on their heels. As the heroes reach superluminal velocity, time warps around the Flashes, creating the temporal eddy into which Darkseid fires the bullet, sending it back in time to kill Orion. Outpacing Omega Beams fired from the eyes of the humans in Darkseid's thrall, the Flashes lead both the beams and the Black Racer straight to Darkseid, finishing the job Batman had begun and bringing the touch of death to the god of evil. Simultaneously, The Ray traces the Metron symbol across the face of the Earth in beams of light, liberating all those under the equation's control; the freed Wonder Woman uses her lasso of truth to expel Darkseid's essence from Turpin's body.

Although physically bested, Darkseid's dying essence is still dragging all of reality into nothingness along with it. Time and space break down as the effect worsens, until eventually, only Superman is left in the darkness at the end of creation, struggling to complete a copy of the "Miracle Machine," a wish-granting machine shown to him by Brainiac 5 during his trip to the future. Darkseid's essence re-emerges to claim the machine, but Superman destroys him for good by countering the vibrational frequency of his lifeforce with a counter-vibration. With Darkseid's end, however, the evil behind evils emerges: Mandrakk, the Dark Monitor, fallen father of Nix Uotan, who waits at the end of all things to consume what remains. Superman uses the solar energy in his own cells to power the Miracle Machine, and makes a wish that is granted by the appearance of an army of Supermen from all across the multiverse. Nix Uotan joins the clash, using his Monitor powers to summon the Green Lantern Corps, the Zoo Crew, the Super Young Team, the armies of Heaven itself, and more for a final battle with Mandrakk that culminates in the Corps spearing him with a stake created by the combined energy of their rings. The heroes drag Earth out of the black hole that is Darkseid, and Nix Uotan returns to being human as the other Monitors cease to exist in accordance with the wish Superman had made: a wish for a happy ending.

In the distant past, Anthro dies of old age in a cave. His body is discovered by Bruce Wayne—not dead, but sent back in time by the Omega Beams—who picks up where Anthro left off, drawing a bat symbol on the cave wall...

Final Crisis: Superman Beyond 3D #1: Superman Beyond
The issue starts with Superman being blasted by what looks to be a Monitor, who is chipping away at Superman’s "cosmic armor". We follow Superman back in time to see Clark Kent sitting next to Lois Lane's hospital bed saying that he'll do anything to save her.  The Monitor Zillo Valla shows up and stops time, saying that if Superman helps her, she will save Lois' life. Superman follows her to her ship, where it is being attacked by another ship. Superman realizes that Zillo Valla has recruited Supermen of other universes to help in her mission: Ultraman from the Anti-Matter Earth, Captain Marvel of Earth-5, Overman of Earth-10, and Captain Allen Adam, the "Quantum Superman" (and a Doctor Manhattan look-alike), of Earth-4.   The enemy ship takes damage from Ultraman and crash lands on Earth-51, part of the "graveyard universe", named that after the fight between Superman-Prime and Monarch destroyed most of the universe.   The Monitor's ship then lands in Limbo, where the Supermen are greeted by Merryman. Superman and Captain Marvel make their way to the Library of Limbo to see the one book that Merryman tells them is there.

When they get to the Library, they see that the book is a book with an infinite number of pages, all occupying the same space. Superman and Captain Marvel realize that if they can get the book to the ship, the ship will be able to process all of the infinite number of stories and would figure a way to fix itself. When they try to pick up the book, it starts to tell them a story about the Monitors.

The story says that there was one Monitor who was as large as the void itself, but a flaw was found in it. To contain this flaw, the Monitor creates the Multiverse to contain it, but it didn’t foresee the birth of complex life within the Multiverse. So the Monitor sends out a probe, possibly the original Monitor from Crisis on Infinite Earths, to investigate the abnormality within the flaw. It witnesses the events of the original Crisis and encounters the concept of "stories" and feels threatened by the existence of "stories", realizing that it has no defense against it. The Monitor seals the flaw, and all that seems to remain is a statue of Superman, dubbed "a vast, uncanny form". After eons of the form standing idle, the race of Monitors develops around it.   They determine, after a few eons, that the form must be some sort of weapon that will help them against some ultimate enemy. Meanwhile, as blood falls from the sky, presumably from the Bleed, the Eater of Life, called Mandrakk, senses his freedom.

There is suddenly a burst of lightning as Superman and Marvel are blasted back from the book and Marvel is transformed back into Billy Baston, who can't remember who he is or his magic word. Superman makes his way back to the ship, telling Captain Adam that he’ll need his help to get the book. Demanding answers, Superman rips off Zillo Valla's door, only to see her sucking out the blood, vampire-style, of Overman. It turns out that she needs to drain "life" from Overman in order to power her ship. Valla tells Superman that the destroyer from earlier is considered Mandrakk's nanotechnology and the he has found them. Captain Adam tells Superman to come outside; the sky has just shattered. The sky has turned red, Ultraman is holding the infinite book and saying that evil wins, and a ship bearing, what looks like, Brainiac’s symbol appears in the sky.

Final Crisis: Revelations #3: Part 3
The Anti-Life Equation has infected Gotham City, turning friend, foe and family into mindless slaves of Darkseid, and the might of the Spear of Destiny has left The Spectre powerless. Can The Question find the answer to restoring hope inside the one being capable of saving the world?

The issue begins with Mercy retelling what god gave all of us, the choice to sin an the choice not to. Those who sinned were cast away and those who didn't were saved. Then she comes to her senses as the Anti-Life controlled citizens of Gotham slam onto the three heroes. Spectre, and Mercy huddled together in a force field created by the Spectre. As Mercy tells how she died Sister Clarice she attempts to calm the citizens, yet to no avail. She comments that it should have worked and Spectre tells her it happened to him when he confronted Libra that its God's idea of a joke. Mercy barks at Spectre telling him that God doesn't joke with life. Commenting to herself that she speaks to him with authority she does not feel.

Outside the Question tries to defend herself from Batwoman. The woman she once loved under the control of Darkseids Anti-Life equation, Batwoman continues to beat the life out of Question. Question tries to beg an reason with Kate(Batwoman) but to no avail, she strikes Question down slamming her fist into her back. The pain is almost too much for Question. All the time Mercy can feel the pain from Question, and soon the fight is stopped with Spectre screaming "ENOUGH!" as he blasts Batwoman. Spectre believes if god wont allow him to restore Kate then she shall be ended by his hands. Question jumps in front of Batwoman telling him that she cant control the evil she is committing that she is under control of the Anti-Life, Spectre comments thats even worse. Mercy does not want to see anymore bloodshed and she teleports Question,Spectre and herself out of the area for the safety of them an the ones around them.

Cain and his followers continue their trek towards Spectre, Cain stops and comments on the work he has done already that his father would be proud. His followers commenting on what he has already done, he tells them that its almost over that this is nothing that awaits once he is revenged upon god.

Back with Spectre an company he comments that this is what God wanted. That he has abandoned them, leaving them powerless to do anything against what they are fighting against. Soon the Questions wounds become too much for her an Spectre points out the damage, soon afterward Mercy places her hand on Question and heals her. Spectre then grows angered that god allows Mercy to heal Question while his power is bit by bit whittling away, that he was unable to stop Libra because god wouldn't allow it. That why was she spared and not his brother Jake.

Soon more people come to the church they are in looking for help, as Question helps them in Mercy in her human form gasps in surprise. Spectre now in human form comments that the people outside who are being controlled are stopped cause they are protected, but Mercy interjects saying that they are waiting. Spectre asks waiting for what ?. Question tells them both she already told them, it was all in the Crime bible. The people are waiting for Cain that he has the spear and is coming for Spectre. Mercy continues with what Question was saying, telling Spectre that Cain is after him because he was the one who took him down that Cain is coming back for revenge....revenge upon god by killing Spectre. Mercy finally seeing something is up with their powers pointing out three men in the church asking if Spectre feels anything if god is pointing them out, when Spectre says no she tells him that they were the three that killed her. She walks up to them turning into Mercy asking if they remember her to look at what they did to her. They plead to her telling her sorry and asking for forgiveness, she replies "I don't know how to." then Questions gaze turns to the door as she tells them "HE'S HERE".

Cain is outside goading Spectre to come out an stop being a coward, to come out an fight him. Surrounded by his people who worship him along with the ones controlled by the Anti-Life. Soon Spectre does as he is asked an comes out fists swinging, Cain laughs at his attempts at fighting telling him he is using his fists when he has great power at his disposal. That Spectre knows nothing of vengeance and gouging out Spectre's eye out, as Spectre writhes in pain Cain tells him "I birthed murder...allow me to demonstrate." And plunges the Spear of Destiny into Spectre.

Final Crisis #4: Darkseid Says

Overview:

It's one month after the Anti-Life Equation was released worldwide. Millions now toil as slaves of Darkseid, while the Justifier shock troops of Apokolips lay waste to the planet Earth and hunt down its protectors.

The remaining free humans and superheroes are stationed around the world, besieged within the walls of ten very familiar 'Watchtowers', as they fight a desperate, losing battle against the triumphant forces of evil.

While Green Arrow and Black Canary attempt to deliver the secret of humanity's last hope across America's blasted wastelands, the Outsiders brave the horrors of the Bludhaven bunker in search of Batman. The ultimate battle is coming…but which heroes will become villain – and vice versa? And what part do the Secret Society have to play in the dawning of this new Age of Evil?

Darkness is falling and death rules the day. Is this truly the end of the Age of Super Heroes?

The Ray narrates how the Anti-Life Equation has infected most people on Earth and how the Darkseid's forces have taken over very easily. The Ray arrives at the Hall of Justice to give information to survivors of Anti-Life the group includes Green Arrow, The Tattooed Man (with some sort of symbol Black Lightning told him about), Black Canary, Oracle, Jai and Iris West, Wally West's wife Linda and Jay Garrick's wife Joan.

The first wave of the Bludhaven have been defeated. Dan Turpin is resisting the control of Darkseid in Command-D station. His followers Simyan Mokkari and Godfrey cannot properly reside in human bodies and argue who Darkseid will save. It is revealed that Kalibak is in the body of a humanoid tiger that has been created for him.

In the Watchtower the survivors show their doubt of fighting Darkseid but Ray tells them of some hope they have because a informant in Libra's Secret Society has given them information of a internet that only villains use called the Unternet which is now being used by Checkmate and all other forms of the Resistance to Darkseid to coordinate their attacks.

Mister Terrific and Alan Scott use the Unternet to lead the Resistance who have made "Watchtowers" all over the globe. Amanda Waller has now come in contact with Renee Montoya who is told she plays a big part of a plan to save Earth. Black Adam is convinced by Captain Marvel to join The Resistance. Alan Scott tells the other heroes that as many of them must converge at Bludhave at dawn to fight Darkseid.

At the Hall of Justice The Tattooed Man rearranges his tattoos and shows the symbol Black Lighting told him of and resembles Metron. Black Lighting himself breaks the defense of the Hall.

Wally West and Barry Allen briefly enjoy their reunion as Barry tells Wally he is not sure how he was brought back to life. The two then battle the new Female Furies in the form of a Anti-Life infected Wonder Woman, Catwoman, Batwoman and Giganta. Wally and Barry then escape to find their families.

In the Hall of Justice Green Arrow rushes the others to the Watchtower teleporters but chooses to stay behind and remove the teleporters location codes so they cannot be tracked to outer space. Black Canary attempts to give him a kiss goodbye but is interrupted by a Anti-Life infected Black Lightning with other Justifiers. Green Arrow tries to fight back but is infected with Anti-Life via Justifier helmet. Aboard the outer space Watchtower briefly reflects on Green Arrow's sacrifice and then tells the other to search for weapons.

As The Resistance continue to battle their own who are infected with Anti-Life, Hawkgirl notices that the sky is raining Blood. In the Command-D facility Mary Marvel puts a helmet on Dan Turpin's head and Darkseid's followers taunt Dan Turpin to become the new body for Darkseid but Turpin still resists.

Iris Allen West walks home infected by Anti-Life but is surprised to see Barry and Wally. Barry then kisses Iris and has somehow removed the Anti-Life Equation's influence. The reunited couple then tearfully embrace.

At the Checkmate castle in Switzerland a boomtube opens up with Shilo Norman, Sonny Sumo and The Super Young Team all with Mr. Miracle's "M" symbol on their faces. Shilo attempts to get the attention of Checkmate and talk to them but is shot in the chest.

As Shilo Norman is shot Dan Turpin gives in and becomes Darkseid.

The dramatic finale to the epic, seven-part saga of the DC multiverse concludes with an apocalyptic battle for the soul of humanity that must be seen to be believed! Can the heroes of 52 Earths save the multiverse? And is the only way to save it, to change it forever?

At Some unspecified point in the battle Wonder Woman was freed and strung Darkseid with her magic lasso removing him from Dan Turpin's body.

Inside The Watchtower all the survivors are transformed into microscopic cells and placed inside a freezer in the Miracle Machine except Superman who is to activate the Miracle Machine and Supergirl who leaves to check on any other survivor.

Superman is then confronted by the bare consciousness of Darkseid without a body. Superman tells Darkseid of how everything is just vibrations and how they can be canceled out by counter-vibrations he screams some musical note and kills Darkseid.

Superman then uses the solar energy in his body to activate the Miracle Machine. As the Green Lantern Corps come near Earth the alternate Supermen all arrive to fight Ultraman and the Mandrakk.
