First misfire
I'd have to say, this issue is Hickman's first misfire on his entire run on Fantastic Four into FF to date. And that's really weird to say as this issue is written with very rich, flowing narrative that is quite rare in the graphic novel medium. My problem is that while the story is very well written, and feels very grandiose in its style... it also feels trivial. It feels a bit misleading and quite unnecessary.
So... hardly spoiler alert considering the cover... Black Bolt is returning. But we don't get to that until the last 2 pages. Unti then, we get VERY vague recap of the "War of Kings" story where he [apparently?] died... and then some flashback to the Kree empire, hundreds of thousands of years ago, with the Supreme Intelligence and an earlier version of Ronan the Accuser doing... something. Wiping out the scientists responsible for some sort of discovery that will, FAR down the road, have something to do with the Supreme Intelligence's demise... and apparently Black Bolt's return. I don't know; it's all very vague. Hickman's either over-reaching on his science (he CAN be a bit of a show-off in this title) or there's more to it that will make this issue better after the fact. Reading this issue by itself, it feels largely inconsequential even though it's leading to the revival of a major character.
