The Good: It should've been said in the first issue, but I didn't review that one; I REALLY like the new uniforms/costumes. They look cool, and they perfectly represent the big expansive new era of the FF. They look like the next step after the Fantastic Four, and that's exactly what they are.
The dialogue is amazingly well written. It's all deep and emotional, but not overbearingly. It's full of nice subtleties and banter.
The characters are all extremely well defined without relying on overdoing their personalities. It reminds me of Gail Simone's writing in a way, which is a GREAT thing.
The 2 pages of repetitive panels turned out to be a great way to make the scene flow so naturally.
The twist at the end caught me completely off guard.
The Bad: I'm not saying I don't understand where they're coming from, I just feel like I've seen this king of thing too much lately, but the huge rage from Ben and the annoyance of Sue over Doom joining just didn't quite grip me. I was waiting for it to be over so the story could move on.
This is probably just me, but what's the deal with Doom's memory loss? They explained Kristoff completely, but don't get into when/why/where Doom lost part of his brain. Is that something that happened towards the end of Fantastic Four?
In Conclusion: 4.5/5
I took a risk buying this comic, having never read a Fantastic Four comic in my life, but being vaguely familiar with the characters; and being deep in DC, but it caught my eye, and I have not been disappointed. It welcomes new readers with open arms. The dialogue is smooth, the action is smooth, but barely even needed. The balance of elements is quite nice. This comic is something I have to respect, it's taking characters who have been around for decades and changing them for new times without bastardizing their history. I'm fine with a lot of comics, but in a way, this is something that should probably be done with a lot of characters. This is a true larger scale evolution of an old team, and I'm definitely on board for it.
