Twenty-Eight Minutes
Highly Recommended!
Things finally came together for me on this issue. While I enjoyed the previous issues, I didn't quite fully embrace all the various plot streams until this part of the arc. It was one simple drawing, one simple explanation in the book that did it for me - the flashback where Val and Nathaniel work on the "end of the world timing issue" together.
The art still feels strange, but I am getting use to it. It doesn't distract me from the story any longer - which is good, because this part of the story was just great - the flashbacks really helped solidify the message, instead of confuse it this time around. This was likely due to things wrapping up in this issue. Either way, this issue really made me feel glad I stuck with the series and trusted things would pan out.
I was pleased to see what came of the Celestial Finger Tips - and how the team dealt with the issues they presented. I was also very pleased with how the Ultimate Nullifier was factored in, used and experienced within the story. It is always a tricky object for a creative team to work with, you never know exactly how things will end up.
Unless something drastically different and tricky is presented, I have to admit I was wrong about Doom. His reason for staying really may have been sacrifice. While valiant, and for all the right reasons, I cannot help but feel bad. In fact, I am really hoping that there was one last trick up his sleeve - if I check Val's math, 28 minutes - 27 minutes (needed) = 1 minute to survive! ...here's to hoping!
